Sounds like it will be one of those 20 minute versions for the superbowl judging by her live rendition a couple day ago on the Today (or some morning) Show.

As to your latter assertion:  she is a better singer than 90% of the pop tarts out there. She's good enough
that the annoying over autotuning they slap on her records is very jarring.

Offhand, only Christina Aguilera probably has a better voice.

As to your former assertion:

Can't argue that one.

So why has this been on the news constantly but the fact that Yo Yo Ma and his quartet arm-synched 4 years ago was hardly ever mentioned?

i got something she needs to lip sync!

I heard that they had to do that since it was so cold, that if they tried to play their string instruments, the strings would have broken.

As someone who leans right on a lot of issues.....

Who gives a fark? It's very common in outdoor settings that something that 'important' be lip-synched so there are no screwups.

If you want to disagree with a politician, do it on the things they stand for, not stupid shiat like this, the color of their skin, the 'supposed' ancestry/religion... (which, to all of you dumbass birthers out there, he was found eligible to run for office, and that's all that needs to be said about it. Shut up, you're dumb, and wrong.)

"Lip Synched" ..... Isthat a fancy way of saying she gave Bill Clinton a BJ during Obama's inaguration?

I'd definitely give her some lip service....if you know what I mean.

Oh, so who actually sang the song?

Oh..she did, just before the show?

Oh.  So she sang it.  Ok.

What're we talking about again?

People in musical theatre expend huge vocal and physical energy, 8 shows a week. Just watch a clip of Michael Jeter in Grand Hotel (skip to 2:30 if you won't wait).

In Toronto, Hepner and Diener are singing Tristan und Isolde for five fricking hours (with two half hour intermissions).

Think of Daltry, Gillan, Mercury standing up for hours in city after city, leaving it all out there - and this diva can't sing an ocatve and a half for three miniutes, because January and Super Bowl. The "no mistakes, please, we're Presidential" argument is a lame one.

Lightweight.

Then why not be honest and present it as "here is a recording of Beyonce singing the National Anthem recorded an hour ago"?
Why stand up there and pretend to be singing it live?
This is not a knock on Beyonce. This is SOP for the "music" industry, and that is really, really sad.

gtraz: So why has this been on the news constantly but the fact that Yo Yo Ma and his quartet arm-synched 4 years ago was hardly ever mentioned?

This.  I don't remember if it had something to do with the weather, or something about the acoustics of performing outside in that kind of "venue", or what but THIS.  THIS, indeed.

2013-02-01 12:42:28 PM
The article seems to indicate that she SANG it live, but with a prerecorded musical accompaniment.

"So I decided to sing along with my prerecorded track,  which is very common in the music industry. I'm very proud of my performance. "

2013-02-01 12:43:27 PM
I was sick with that norovirus thing feeling like warmed over death and fell asleep before she sang. But it says she sang live over a recorded track. That seems forgivable to me. If she didn't make any sounds and just moved her lips to the prerecorded track then that is pathetic, I can't stand lip-syncing.

If you aren't good enough to rise to occasion, then don't pretend to be.

<i>She then belted out a stunning a cappella rendition of the national anthem and, when she was finished, faced the music with a saucy little quip: "Any questions?"

Game, set, match, Beyonce."</i>

Umm, no.  Nobody was claiming that she <b>couldn't</b> sing - they complained that she <b>didn't sing</b>.  So, take your "Any questions" and shove it, you overpaid diva.

Mock outrage.  It's outside. There could be wind, feedback, background noise, whatever. She wanted it to sound perfect. It's still her voice, lots of performers do that for a large venue.

The only story here is that we are no longer drinking Republican tears, we're surfing on them.

The fact that she pretended she was singing when she really wasn't. what a sham.

Any grief that Beyoncé gets for this is completely justified. People went there expecting to see her actually sing. If I bought tickets to a wrestling match, and it turned out that it was all fake, I would be very angry and demand my money back. Why should this be different?

I'm no believer in "American exceptionalism" and all that, but I'm a traditionalist as far as the National Anthem  is concerned. In my opinion, it should be publicly performed with exactly or close to the notes it was originally given. It should be sung by someone who has practiced in advance enough to memorize the words.

Teleprompter might be OK if the singer isn't someone who'd normally be expected to know them, e.g. a singing star from another nation.

Beyonce at the inauguration should have been replaced by a cardboard cut-out of herself.

It's still real to me!

Singing in the cold weather is difficult and potentially damaging to a vocalist. I don't blame her for lyp-syncing.

And while I am absolutely amazed Clarkson pulled it off, at the same time one cannot compare the two in either's ability to deal with temperature. A singer's capacity to deal with the cold weather is unique to them and just because one can do it does not mean another can pull it off.

This whole thing is a tempest in a teapot.

There is a difference to performing to a pre-recorded track and lip-syncing.  The track is typically the instrumental piece or backing vocals.  You'll see this often and it doesn't mean the performer isn't singing live, only that the band and back-up singers aren't there. If the singer's voice is actually part of that pre-recorded playback and the singer is singing through a dead mic, that would be lip-syncing.  You see it often with today's hip-hop artists that use a great deal of dancing in their performance.  The may even have a live mic and sing when they can but along with their own lead vocals playing behind them.  I've seen Kelly Clarkson live a few times (I have a couple teenage daughters plus she has an amazing voice) and she's the real deal and doesn't use tricks or auto-tune.  If there was a pre-recorded track, I'd bet it didn't contain her voice, just the instrumentals.  I can't tell if Beyonce is or isn't lip-syncing, just depends what was on that back track, music or/and vocals...

You don't think Kelly Clarkson, Jennifer Hudson or Adele are better singers than Beyonce?  Granted none of them look like her, but vocally I would put them at or above her in today's pop world.
