Truly it can only result in a better job for the worker when news gets around.

The puppy was rescued, and the worker will be again employed -at a better place one can only hope.

The article is so sketchy that I doubted it was true.

Then, a "top commenter" says that Walmart gave the employee 3 paid days off "to relax."

Please, pull the other one!

That's kind of like if one is a good Christian, one will go to a better place after one dies.
/In this metaphor, what does that make Walmart?

They didn't want a dog in the checkout line cuz it wasn't made in China.

I'm not sure which is sadder, this story or the fact that it's completely believable if indeed it turns out to be false. I try not to be cynical about everything, but really for me it's more about setting appropriate expectations for our society. Oh, and f*ck Ken. F*ck Ken right where it hurts

One would think the manager would have recognized the situation as an opportunity to
gain Walmart some positive publicity.

Hopefully Ken's Walmart career is over just as surely as the women's.

Sometimes, when the night is very still, the moon is bright in the sky and my husband's semen is drying to a fine skim of crust on my thighs,  I wonder if they will, someday, in the far future, find a way to start making people in China. And I am afraid.

My laws! Can you imagine that!? Chinese people? I mean...I don't even...what would that even look like? Like a regular person made from inferior components that'll last two or three years? Would it even eat normal food? Would it hate it's own kind?

Then I sleep. And the river Lethe takes me into it's black, numbing embrace. And I forget.

And I am happy once again.

I have a family member that works for Walmart, I find it dubious that they'd actually give three paid days off "to relax."  This is also one of the place that's long been fighting unionization, so why would they charitably give off time that wasn't asked for weeks or months in advance?

I'll bet she did get fired for saving a puppy.

Kwame is right, in the general.  I don't click Examiner links after the Wampler-Curtis mess, so no way to tell if the situation could have been better resolved by using the magic speakerphone and calling security over to deal with the stray instead.

I'm ~no~ fan of Evil-Mart. I haven't spent money there in close to a decade, on principle. I despise the way they treat their workers, I despise their tactics, I think they're the worst face of capitalism, I... well, I should probably stop before this rant gets even more tedious.

Suffice it to say, I expected to read a story that would confirm my pre-existing bias. But in this case, I hate to say that I can understand where they're coming from. The "article" reads like a grossly-exaggerated sob story whose details unravel the more closely you look at them. Just for  start: "A few minutes temporary protection until rescue arrives? Waaaah. Pull the other one. Anyone seriously believe it would be less than half an hour? Not to mention "holding the puppy in a check stand" - given the way their check stands are designed, it defies logic that the puppy wasn't in the way and probably accosting customers. The worker was "saving [a] puppy" that was "obviously starving, cold," etc? Wait a minute, I thought it was only "a few minutes". By my estimation, at least half an hour to an hour. Regardless, does anyone really believe the puppy would have died in that time frame without the "shelter" of an Evil-Mart check stand?

If this incident, even as it probably really happened (as opposed to the sympathetic mad spin American Pit Bull Examiner tries to put on it), is all that led to the worker being fired - yeah, it's an overreaction. But it's hardly Sam Walton rising from his grave to rip helpless puppies from the hands of his servants to throw them into a woodchipper. And it's a hell of a lot more likely that this incident was simply the last straw in a pattern of the person refusing to do the work they were told to do.

From this crap article? None. Same as you.

Which is why I'm still curious why you decided to pee your little pants in fear about the skeery dirty puppy that's going to poison your food.

ExperianScaresCthulhu: Kwame is right, in the general.

No, he's not. There aren't many diseases that are transmissible between dogs and humans and most of the ones that are transmissible occur rarely. The only serious threat would be rabies (unlikely) and if it's covered in shiat E. Coli. and if you're going to worry about that from a puppy I have some really, REALLY bad news for you about all those little crotch-spawn that the spandex monsters that inhabit Wal-Mart are dragging through the line in front of you.

Farking pussies... oh my god... a small animal got slightly near some packaged food. Better all just freak the fark out because apparently it would be way too hard to just rinse off the fruits and vegetables and wash your hands before you tear open that bag of pork rinds.

Here's the point, you're missing, superstar.  There are still health regulations whether an internet idiot thinks stray unvaccinated animals are a health risk or not.  There are still customers to be concerned about with an animal that can bite.  There are even employees to be concerned about.  If you got your ass off your shoulders long enough to stop thinking about your imaginary scenario of a poor doe-eyed Disney puppy who just needs some warmth and love, you'd realize it's a little more complicated than that.

You must work in HR because that's pretty much the only group of people I've ever known to be so desperately afraid of something so largely inconsequential.

The horror! Alert the townspeople! A small animal was temporarily in a location it should not normally be in! This is truly an outrage!

Pencil-pushing wusses like you are the reason we can't have nice things anymore and normal, sensible people are constantly being drowned in stupid regulations just for the sake of it. Get over yourself. A one time event happened for a brief period that temporarily didn't meet certain criteria on the employee bulletin board. It's not really a big farking deal and if that's really all that happened nobody should have been fired.

Next thing you'll be telling me somebody stood on a ladder without a safety buddy and they need to be fired and everyone needs to be retrained because it's a regulation and somebody could have been KILLED! KILLED I SAYS!

kwame: I'll be sure to send you a Christmas card when I decide that I give a sh*t what you think.

I was sponsored for a month earlier this year. The very first TFD thread I looked at was a torch and pitchfork scene right out of an old movie. For a group of people who are frequently alleged to be so much friendlier than liters, this was eye opening. Truly ugly behavior. As jerky as the trolls can be, you guys were worse. Much worse. One member in particular stood out as a vicious asshat, and convinced me on the spot that I had no desire whatsoever to become a TotalFarker. Would you like three guesses as to that was, kwame?

GlobalStrategic MapleSyrup Reserve: Odoriferous Queef: kwame: All the weeping and wailing over some mutt and her idiot savior aside, I can't imagine what a soulcrushing job it would be to be responsible for the Wal-Mart Facebook page.

First you have the asshat champions for justice who post on every issue from blood diamonds to wage issues, then you have to stop and deal with this:

[i42.photobucket.com image 416x140]

That's too damn funny. Remove me from my account.  Of course the fact that Jill Job ever subscribed to Walmart's feed says a lot.

With some people everything's got to be about them. She must be the "I saw in your ad this tv was $100! Why isn't it?"-type who can't specify. You'd better know what they meant that first time or else you're making everything too difficult for them.

/all that from just one Facebook post

You obviously work in retail. Last night I had a woman who complained because her coupon never printed after she bought her merchandise.
"Ma'am, you didn't buy the merchandise that was part of the offer."
"The hell I din't. It says buy this brand I get that $5"
"No, it says buy the select merchandise and get $5 back"
"No it don't. Not on the ad, not on the signs"
/grabs sign from shelf and ad, points it out
"E'ry damn time I come in her dis shiat happens. Just return it all. Bullshiat"
I'm sorry you can't read lady. Apparently, everytime you come in.

Alright, so an employee saving a puppy is bad/disgusting/whatever, but Walmart lets customers come in and wander around the food sections with animals such as these:

kwame: Vegan Meat Popsicle: Which is why I'm still curious why you decided to pee your little pants in fear about the skeery dirty puppy that's going to poison your food.

I don't know where you got that.  What's curious is your decision twice to talk about pants wetting.  Is that a thing with you?

Vegan Meat Popsicle: No, he's not.

Here's the dog in question, you douche bag. Not sure you could find a more doe eyed dog if you tried.
Oh God, the horror, the horror! Now shut it and crawl back in your hole.

I'm pretty sure there are already more than enough reasons not to go to WallyWorld...

At face value the story is pretty bad but hey, it's Wal-Mart. You pretty much have to assume that anyone who works there longterm is either a bad person or angry at life because they work there.

Is that too much to ask?

it's examiner.com.  the real journalists wrote the story elsewhere. the examiner.com writer just stole the story and rewrote it (or had someone else rewrite it), and sits back to reap the page-click revenue.

You forgot to include the person who includes an auto play video that is completely unrelated to the story.

You know, as a former ASM for Walmart, allow me to offer some insight.  I didn't grow up hating the job, until the very end. And I'm not a bad person either, I'm going leaps and bounds with my current employer. The problem with Walmart is the good ol' boy mentality that runs in the chain.  You have two methods of advancement in the company: be a raging asshole or a minority. Seriously. I saw the most terrible of people advanced because they were either a woman or a minority just to fill a "non-existent" quota. The other side of that coin was managers who were advanced because they got results, no matter what they did in the store or how their people were treated to get to that point. I didn't see the end result until the last 6-8 months, after 9 years of work. I worked my way up from being a part time hourly person up to where I ended. And I refused to work under someone who gives out a list of 100 things, you complete 97% of it by staying over 1/3 of your scheduled time, then he has the balls to call you at home over the 3 things and ask questions like "don't you feel your job is important? don't you think you should get tasks done I assign to you?"  FARK. THAT.

Haha, it's sad that it's always the same people. I used to work retail a few years back. So long as you're dealing with a customer in some capacity you run into this sort of thing though.
The best are people who reference a TV ad they say that's either regionally directed (and not your region) or aired 6 months - 5 years ago and they just remembered it. I take pity on anyone who works in fast food having to regularly explain that your cable/satellite TV receives channels that are only "local" for a select group and odds are if you live in London, Ontario and were watching Atlanta's Peachtree TV their Subway or BK or whatever has a different deal than your nearest one.

So are you taking the vegan/animal rights route on this one, assaulting people until someone sponsors you so you can move into TFD and call another person a pedophile?

I have no idea what that's even supposed to mean. I get the uninventive part where you just arbitrarily assumed my Fark handle was anything but a Fark handle, but after that you sort of careened off into crazy land.

Try coming down off your high and posting again, perhaps.

dopekitty74: I don't agree with Kwame's point here either, and neither do alot of us, but you're really not helping. You're just making those of us who do have compassion for the lady and dog look bad by being a douchesicle.

Or maybe the problem here is that you're putting way too much effort into trying to 'honestly' oppose a guy who's just being a dicksicle (I like the rhyming insults, personally) for the sake of it.

Newsflash: he's just being a twat for the sake of being a twat because it's a 'dog thread' and he knows he can easily rile up 'dog people'. If you're going to respond at all, you might as well amuse yourself at his expense in the process. If you're not just going to take the opportunity to stomp on a troll, you might as well just ignore the entire bit of the thread involving him.

HAhahaha, I used almost the same line on a conference call I was running the other day. We'll just check on that and get back with you later. Moving on..."

So the name of the publication I was just reading is "American Pitbull Examiner?"

I'm so confused.

Is it a like a dog thing? Or are they comparing their jornalistic style to the tenacity of a pitbull?

This kind of unexplained ambiguity makes me tired and punch-wanty at the same time.

Excellent point... that dog contaminated the area!!  The 1000's of people with their hands which have been coughed on, sneezed on, just finished rubbing their balls on, scratching their ass with, touching and grabbing 1000's of products and rubbing them on the counter scanner... there's no way there's a drop of contamination there.
