While Eliot Smith did die a decade ago, Sufjan Stevens is still going strong:

Tallest Man is probably my favorite new artist in the past ten years. I ordered Idiot Wind's album on bandcamp, and she sent it with a handwritten note.

Guy next to me recorded this, at a show in Chicago a couple of years ago. The two of them and Daniel Ratliffe covering "The Man in Me" to close the show.

Great find, subby!

Erm. Better lyrics than any American? I think you'll find Damien Jurado, who wrote this song, is.... American.

Subby here:

Yes, I stand corrected (didn't realize it was a cover, I just figured it was something he and his wife did for the movie soundtrack they worked on, which sadly never will get released).

Is there a big folk scene in Sweden or something? Reminds me of that band Amandine...

Well, there is - but "Folk scene" in Sweden = "Dansbandsmusik".

Best example of dansbandsmusik is Lasse Stefanz, "De sista ljuva åren":

Or Sven-Ingvars, "Två mörka ögon":

These two songs topped the Swedish charts like - forever! Think of it as a Swedish version of "Achey breakey heart".

The only good Swedish musician is Jose Gonzalez.
