"you don't live here" (part 3)

Having lost a good cat of 17 years, I vowed "never again" - and then she showed up, at the end of the front path. Petite, green-eyed and ragged she sat, every day, never in reach and silent as a midnight park.

"you don't live here" i told her through the screen door

And then, one day, I heard the tiny mewling sounds of kittehs from the concrete planter by the door.

"you slut" i told her - and refused to look - i don't want cats again, they break your heart

But, babies are babies and they grew enough to tumble their way out of the planter and into the light - two of them, with that "i have no depth perception" squiggly walk. One wearing a striped zebra suit and the other a mimi-me copy of the silent intruder. Oh, she took great pride, laying in the sun and nursing and teaching them how to hunt lizards.

"you aren't staying" i told her - but - one mother to another, I began feeding her. She would eat when given space and we began calling the kittehs "fuzzles" as in "don't step on the fuzzles" as they grew bold enough to lie on the porch steps. Surely I could find a home for two tiny horridly cute babies - but, no - not even my son's 43 million facebook friends volunteered....and they were growing daily, getting curious, hanging out by the front door. and, worse, enjoying being petted and fed!

and then I came home from the grocery and found the zebra-coated girl had come to a bad end and, damn it, i wept over another cat. Not just her, but her brother who now had no one to romp with and, oh, was he lonely when his silent slut of a mother was away. I thought only I saw this but my son did and took the opportunity to bring the solo fuzzle INTO MY HOUSE.

"Well" I reasoned "it's just the one - and we can get him fixed" because, you see, I had begun laying plans to capture the silent green eyed round heels and spay her - How do you catch a cat who is part smoke and mirrors? My plans ran from a can of tuna and a box to a dart gun.....obviously she was not leaving.

Terrydatroll: That is so pathetic, poor cat. This is a perfect example of why people should have the intestinal fortitude to put down animals when necessary. Nature surely would, in a less acceptable manner for most of you I would assume.

kevinboehm: I can't find the post in order to quote it.  Earlier someone asked if the cat in TFA was born this way, or if this is from an injury.  I'm not an expert, but looking at the x-rays in the video, my best guess is that it's a birth defect because the cat's ribs are also abnormal.  Also I think that if there was a trauma to torque him around this bad, it probably would have killed him, or paralyzed him.  I know the Fark headline says he's paralyzed, but he has control over his back legs and tail, you can see that in the video as well.  It's like he has Scoliosis, but I have never seen a case this bad, in a person or in a critter.

I didn't pay that much attention to the x-rays but still figured it was a congenital issue just from the cat's name. LOL!

Just wanted to say hi to everyone! I don't get around much here these days because RL is getting busy. I do miss hearing about all the (mis-)adventures of all your kitties, doggies or human friends. The big day is finally getting closer (4.5 months) and I have done exactly what I thought I would do: procrastinate. At least the invitations are ready to be sent out. :P

I have a contract until the end of March which also is getting close with so much left to be done as well. First real work post-grad school so it's important to get things done right even though this project had some rocky times.

WHICH DOG IS GUILTY???
Anyone who thinks a dog does not remember or does not feel guilt has not lived with a dog. Watch the expressions on the faces of these three dogs when they are asked the same question at the same time. Note the immediate reaction of the two darker dogs on the right side. This is hilarious.

"you don't live here" part 4

Having decided to fix, and (sigh) keep the baby fuzzle and his feral mother, life intervened and I was called out of town. I returned to find my son had bonded with the rapidly growing (and rather good looking) kitteh and a report that his mother had stopped showing up for her daily noms served with my verbal abuse about her loose ways.

"well" i thought "thats cats for you"

Then she re-appeared, as ever - silent and distant but i had plans to catch her and spay her so I sat out and spoke kindly and (sigh) she came ever closer. I thought we were bonding, that we had an understanding - until i heard - AGAIN - the tiny mewling of kittehs from the same damn concrete planter.

"okay" i said "enough is enough" and i looked to see what she had done now

I saw one very tiny kitteh.....and what appeared to be.....an equally tiny possum. Apparently the green-eyed interloper was more of a slut that I thought. "really"? i asked her "interspecies, too?" and as i sat there, perplexed, she rubbed against my legs. Progress, of a sort - but what the HELL was that in the planter?

Another goggie-related tale from AFN Funny:

HOW TO INSTALL A HOME SECURITY SYSTEM:
1. Go to Goodwill, St Vincent dePaul or similar and buy a pair of size 14-16 men's work boots.
2. Place them on your front porch, along with a copy of "Guns & Ammo Magazine".
3. Put four giant dog dishes next to the boots and magazines.
4. Leave a note on your door that reads...
Bubba,
Me, Marcel, Donnie Ray and Jimmy Earl went for more ammo and beer. Be back in an hour. Don't mess with the pit bulls. They got the mailman this morning and messed him up bad. I don't think Killer took part, but it was hard to tell from all the blood. Anyway, I locked all four of 'em in the house. Better wait outside. Be right back.

THAT is funny! Cats remember as well, as this tattle tale kitteh and guilty kitteh more than adequately prove.

Oh, and a badass biker kitteh and a badass "I can relax anywhere, in any position, cuz I'm a cat" kitteh.

Beast is home again.

Thanks so much for your support! We're back from the vet with a fresh administration of fluids. They were able to syringe feed him a little, so that's going to be my project for the time being. The urine culture did reveal some bacterial growth, so he got a Convenia shot as well. If things don't improve by Monday we go back, but for now the staff seems a LOT less worried than I am, which is good.
Now it's my turn to eat and try to sleep! I'll check the thread later, but again, thanks for your kind words and input. Off to bed we go...

Good to hear. As was mentioned upthread, try to stay positive, the kittehs definitely pick up on your vibes.

Thank you Shanrick for the month of total fark! I hope you get this message! I waited for caturday thinking it might be the best way to get your attention.

Conan got stung by a bee or something last week, poor little guy was swatting something then reacted all crazy like a bat out of hell at the end if a walk. Tore himself up somehow while dashing, we think when he was brushing past bushes. Took him to the emergency vet, and he's alright, just had has to get kitty eye drops for a while. And neosporn to his paw and inner ear.

He's doing great and was crawling over me as I write this. So no worries!

one of these days I'll post pics of my kitties.

Though my posts might be late I'll try to post more regularly on caturday threads, in gratitude to shanrick and you all! Happy caturday!

Tried to fetch link to a 2:04 vid of 2 jellicles playing with a banana box, but bad hostname. Actually timed out for me first time, then played regardless of timing out. Facebk & Youtube both involved.  Was on my reminder to make GtrGood site rounds, may not show up on AnimalRescueSite per se.

Sad day in the Engineer household.  I had to put down my buddy of 18 years yesterday, Sarah.  She was a Siamese mix I got from the pound after my first wife had left me.  I didn't know it at the time but she was pregnant.    I was having a tough time dealing with the breakup of my first marriage, and she and her 7 kittens helped a lot. She was there still when I got remarried, and learned to survive with 5 kids around.  Lately she was getting a bit senile, and starting to pee in random places, so it was time.  She will be missed.

RIP Sarah the cat...

I am so sorry for your loss. I lost my 2 20-somethings within a month of each other, so I know how devastating having a good buddy for so long and then losing them can be. I think everyone here has been through it, so we can all relate, no matter how old your furkid was when they crossed over. Hold on to the good memories and just know you helped her and loved her just as much as she helped and loved you.

Look! 'Tis a cougar!
img.photobucket.com

We get those here in the 'burbs, hanging out in trees at major intersections just chillin' from time to time. Especially in the summer when it gets too dry in the hills where they usually hang out and they come down to drink from our swimming pools. Last one we got down here in the valley, they had it on the radio news AND the local TV news before they even darted the critter and got him out of there. Traffic was a nightmare near the intersection he was hanging out at as everyone who wasn't already out and about (as my sis and I were) apparently hopped in their cars to stare at the cougar.

/that pic is actually an Eastern Cougar and I'm in Cali, but still, it's an apex predator and they like our swimming pools (and probably view the kids in it as having good potential as a small snack) and our jogging and biking trails, even if there is heavy traffic nearby
