I exchanged emails with Salem Witch today. She and Susie are fine. She had a cold and went offline, and is now getting back into the swing of things. Can you imagine? She didn't think she would be missed!! Silly witch. :)

It is LOLsome. It's just LOLsome in a slightly weird, scary way. Kind of like Freddy Krueger or Captain Howdy.

Once upon a time, my grandmother was known as the local wild bird rescue person.  Somebody brought her a tiny chick and she set it on a pie plate in the oven, turned off except for the pilot light, to keep it warm.  A friend came over, saw it and joked about the bird being a bit underdone!

Yes, dedicated hooman at work. I know that the modern Maine Coon has a lower maint. Coat than the old style cats. I used to have an old stle Coonie..Tortie Tabby. Orange Black, cream..wonderful cat, but her coat was a nightmare..think cotton candy...as an undercoat! Eep.

Max and Tom have been hanging out in the "red light" district, I think they want to pick up some chicks.
The little weak one was up and fuzzy the next morning and we had the sudden appearance of a little black fuzzy one as well. I have three little chicks, one gold, one black and brown, and one two tone. I have three kitties here, one gold, one black and brown, and one two tone. The cats are aware of this.
My son and I built a neat little brooder that has a locking lid and and expanded steel top. The kitties guard it well.

I cannot imagine having any birds in my house...bad enough when they bring a frog in from the patio (like they did this week...large frog that I was able to rescue before it met a heathen end).

It is so nice to see you back in the saddle, so to speak  I've missed your wonderful stories and pets and all that you do

Wegies are pretty low maintenance as far as their coats go as well. I give GoGo Beastie a good brushing about once a week, twice a week when it starts warming up and the undercoat starts thinning itself out a bit. I figured out a long time ago no one is ever going to get all the unnecessary undercoat off the cat and it will be dropping fur like crazy half an hour after the brushing, so now I just get the loose stuff off of her and book her an appointment for next week. Still takes about an hour. At least she lets me brush her belly, though. A lot of cats don't go for those kinds of shenanigans.

That is one of the few stories of hers I remember.  There was also a robin that was brought to her as an unfledged chick after a storm knocked it out of it's nest.  She raised it on hamburger and raisins.  I saw it come and perch on her hand to beg for raisins for several years back when I was in grade school.  That bird returned every year for years to beg for raisins.

And then there was the wren who landed on her head when she was filling bird feeders in her home in Arkansas, plucked a few grey hairs for it's nest and flew off as if that was normal wren behavior!

Grandma was also a published poet, she donated all the proceeds to her local county library.

I remember joking about her trying to feed half the area wildlife, raccoons, deer, birds, squirrels (not deliberately), opossums, rabbits, you name it.  She had crumbs for wrens, home-made suit (yes, she had her own recipe for bird food) that brought in everything from downy woodpeckers to pileated ones, sugar water for hummingbirds, fruit feeders for orieles, mixed seed for song birds, then corn for deer and rabbits, and dog food for raccoons.  And a water feature with a pump for everyone to get drinks.  At least one momma raccoon weaning little ones found lying in that quite soothing on the mammary glands.

Took a few pictures of the late afternoon sun on my back yard. the line of fence posts is the back of the property there is about three acres to the right side of the picture. there is a line of overgrown stuff and then open field. I think the boys will approve.

It is very sandy ground but the grass is coming back well after someone used a bulldozer to clean up after the last tenants.

I was bad and spent all morning looking through Ebay at old stringed instruments a few weeks ago.

I love traditional instruments of any culture. It's part of the reason I listen to so much European heavy metal. You just haven't lived until you've heard someone screaming at you in Norwegian about drinking and then toasting everyone (skål!), electric guitars blaring - and rocking an accordion at the same time. It's more common in Pagan metal, but I've heard traditional instruments used in death metal and melodic black metal from all over Europe. I think the Pagan metal group Heidevolk's use of the Hurdy Gurdy is AWESOME. I didn't even know what a Hurdy Gurdy was until I heard an unfamiliar instrument and looked it up. It looks HARD to learn to play, that's for sure.

I know what you mean about eBay, btw. My Gran's bday is coming up this month, day after my sister's and one of my cousin's birthdays, so cousin's gift box of goodies is already on the way to Norway (she likes stuff from California, so that's easy!), my sis is easy as she likes weird, goofy things, just like I do (I got her a ceramic piggy bank shaped like a pig, of course, with flowers painted on its butt) and just now found a lot of 25 "Romantic Suspense" novels by authors I'm pretty sure Gran's never read, so I grabbed those for her. Almost everything but a couple of California t-shirts and the piggy bank came from eBay.

Now, some cats!

Grumpy Cat's nemesis, I think
