There is a whole cottage industry of bush league pundits who put a contrarian conservative spin on literally everything the president says no matter how banal common sense it may be. The problem is that Obama is a actually center-right president, if you constantly try to stake out positions to the right of him you are going to windup looking like a fascist a good percent of the time. Literally defending Nazis is a new one to me though...

So the extermination of the Jewish people is a sensible idea. Thanks for sharing, NRO.

I'm surprised they haven't taken this down yet.

Nazism may have been an ideology to which the United States was - and to which the president is - implacably opposed, but it is hardly "senseless." By the early 1930s, the Nazi party had hundreds of thousands of devoted members and repeatedly attracted a third of the votes in German elections; its political leaders campaigned on a platform comprising 25 non-senseless points, including the "unification of all Germans," a demand for "land and territory for the sustenance of our people," and an assertion that "no Jew can be a member of the race." Suffice it to say, many sensible Germans were persuaded.

... the f*ck?

Nice catch in one of the comments -

"Those who perished as a result of Nazi terror, millions of individual men and women and children whose lives were taken so senselessly, must never be forgotten."  - Saint Ronnie

Even Breitbart.com was smart enough to pull its article on "Roots" author Alex Haley, which was based on "facts" courtesy of Stormfront.

@elianayjohnson Hey, was that whole "Sorry, Obama, but the Nazis weren't as senseless as you thought" article real or satire? I can't tell.

@timspc The fact that a political ideology is evil or disagreeable doesn't make it "senseless."

Note the first part:  Nazism may have been an ideology to which the United States was - and to which the president is -

This reads that America USED to think Nazism was a bad idea, but now they think such thinking is out of step with mainstream America.

Fascinating.

I can only imagine that their response to siding with Nazis to make Obama look bad would be something like:

"There are levels of indignity we are willing to accept".

Wait now, just hold on a second, I was told by a couple of guys out in front of my office last summer that Obama actually is Hitler.  One guy even had a picture of Obama with a Hitler mustache to prove it.

I'm so very confused now.

Not to mention the other 3 million Poles, Slavs, gypsies, gays, dissidents and handicapped.

Yeah, not a lot of sense to the Nazi regime.

2013-01-31 05:48:01 PM
Wait a second.  Isn't Obama a fascist?  That's what the Teabaggers say.

So, according to this, Obama is now a a secretly self-hating fascist and Americans are now OK with fascism.

Makes perfect sense.

This from the same people who get mad at every single person who isn't actively giving Bibi Netanyahu a sloppy beej.  It makes no farking sense.

Hitler was lawful evil, not chaotic evil.

Is that basically the point of this argument?

2013-01-31 05:49:53 PM
So the National Review, a publican that used to be considered some what respectable, is saying that the Nazis killing of Jews made sense.

Do they hate Jews or Obama more?

Or is this another case of them being so farked in the head that they're willing to defend the Nazis carrying out the Holocaust just because Obama came out against it.?

2013-01-31 05:58:05 PM
I don't understand, what was the Author's point? He can't really be arguing that the Holocaust was sensible, right? So what was he trying to say?

The only (very charitable) explanation I can come up with is the argument that it is dangerous to merely call the Holocaust crazy or senseless, because then we blind ourselves to how hatred can penetrate our society. If we say "that was just insanity" then we absolve ourselves of the responsibility of understanding, since how can you understand the insane?

If that's what the author was going for he did a terrible job, if that was not what he was going for, then I have no idea what I just read.

Not even Fark Independents are at this level of hate-filled ignorance, so there's not going to be a long-winded fight in the comments, so there's not much incentive to greenlight it.
