Trans fats are made when you heat oil.  A tiny amount, but an amount nonetheless.

If frozen pizzas were even remotely poisonous I would not have survived my early twenties.

serpent_sky: I know how she can avoid these "toxic" pizzas: read the ingredients before buying something and don't buy anything you find objectionable! It's really that easy! It's not as if they were hiding the fact that trans fats were in the food.  She should be thrown out of court immediately and forced to pay the legal fees for the companies for being simply that stupid.

Ya, that makes sense, but if she did that, she couldn't bring forth teh frivolous lawsuit for eleventy gillion dollars to pay her life and her two crotch fruit.

Never has the term "biatch slap" crossed my mind so many times in one article.

The Angry Hand of God: What do you want on your Tombstone?

A thick layer of trans fat.

/OMG, Frozen Pizza has trans fats?!!
//I'll never be surprised with whatever is in a frozen pizza.

I'll take that bet.  People who look like your description don't give a shiat about trans fat - it's 40% of their diet.

Dafodude: To be fair, subby, this is a class-action suit, so it's not like she's expecting to get 5 million to herself.  And if this stupid-ass suit actually does win the lawyers will take half before the any other claimants get their check for five dollars and sixty-two cents.

Anyway, this article makes it seem like a slam dunk at first saying PHVO is "banned worldwide".  Poor choice of words considering that later in the article it specifically states that only a few jurisdictions in the U.S. have banned it, and only in restaurants.

Even the complaint itself says "banned in many parts of the world."  That does NOT mean "banned worldwide."

Nestle is right to say that they're in compliance with regulations.  I didn't feel like reading the entire 23 page complaint, but I'm guessing this case doesn't have much merit at all, and that it's just enough worth the risk for the lawyers to give it a shot. They could probably give less than two shiats about Katie Simpson and her Snowflakes, et al.

No, just give them a free pizza as the settlement. For maximum trolling.

That's the argument being made in a $5 million federal class-action lawsuit that claims Nestle-makers of DiGiorno, Stouffer's and California Pizza Kitchen frozen pizzas -is "placing profits over public health" by failing to remove trans fat.

According to at least half our governing body, profits are and have been, more important that humans for quite some time.  That's how our entire health care system works.  Good luck with that reasoning.  If it kills you and they make a few bucks, it was well played.

/Wish she had eaten several dozen pizzas covered in ACTUAL poison.

Launching her into the sun would cost quite a bit of money.  Would you settle for catapulting her into the Pacific Ocean, covered with chum?

/after I get to punch her in the clitoris, of course

You say that as if she didn't specifically search out a pizza with that ingredient listed just so she had an excuse to start the lawsuit. Yeah, I'm cynical, but these cases are always, always setups.

You're right, I let my emotions override my logic.

Although she's probably a giant fat cow with enough fuel reserves to launch HERSELF into the sun with a quick bic flick.

I suppose I could settle for everyone on Earth lining up for one free taco punch/kick. Just doesn't seem painful enough.

But it should HOPEFULLY keep her from continuing to pollute the world with more of her disgusting crotch fruit.

hillbillypharmacist: Well, here is the nutritional info from the website for the BBQ Chicken pizza:
[i291.photobucket.com image 757x151]
It reports no trans fat.  This may be the issue at hand.
Of course, if it has 0.3gm of trans fat and the FDA allows it to be rounded down to zero, I still don't really think they have a case.

We will have none of those kinds of facts here!

For people thinking this was some random house wife's scheme or even her good natured plan to save American children from the evils of trans fats, I would humbly suggest she saw a late night commercial from some scam law agency telling that "If you or someone you know has eaten frozen California Pizza Kitchen pizzas, you may be part of a class action lawsuit and have money to collect."

And if they hook enough greedy people, they bring a class action suit against the company. Lawyers make bank while the class action recipients make about $2.50.

This just in:  packaged frozen foods are not healthy for you.

If you want "healthy" pizza, make it from scratch.  It's really not difficult to make a decent pizza dough.  It might take a little more time, but it's worth it.

Sheesh.

I want your skull: hillbillypharmacist: Shostie: Does the list of ingredients include the phrase "partially hydrogenated?"

INGREDIENTS: ENRICHED WHEAT FLOUR (WHEAT FLOUR, MALTED BARLEY FLOUR, NIACIN, REDUCED IRON, THIAMINE MONONITRATE, RIBOFLAVIN, FOLIC ACID, ASCORBIC ACID), BARBECUE SAUCE (WATER, TOMATO PASTE, BROWN SUGAR, VINEGAR, MOLASSES, SUGAR, SALT, APPLE CIDER VINEGAR, CONTAINS LESS THAN 2% OF MODIFIED FOOD STARCH, MUSTARD BRAN, DRIED GARLIC, NATURAL HICKORY SMOKE FLAVOR, CARAMEL COLOR, SPICE, NATURAL FLAVOR), LOW-MOISTURE PART- SKIM MOZZARELLA CHEESE (PART-SKIM MILK, CHEESE CULTURE, SALT, ENZYMES), WATER, GRILLED SEASONED WHITE MEAT CHICKEN (WHITE MEAT CHICKEN, WATER, MODIFIED FOOD STARCH, SALT, DEXTRIN, SODIUM PHOSPHATES, FLAVORING, YEAST EXTRACT, FRUCTOSE, CARRAGEENAN, CHICKEN FAT, COOKED CHICKEN), SOYBEAN OIL, SMOKED GOUDA CHEESE (PASTEURIZED PART-SKIM MILK, CHEESE CULTURE, SALT, ENZYMES, ANNATTO [COLOR]), SUGAR, RED ONIONS, CONTAINS LESS THAN 2% OF YEAST, SALT, WHEAT GLUTEN, CILANTRO. CONTAINS: WHEAT, MILK.

Doesn't look like it.

Their pepperoni pizza has, and lists trans fat on the nutritional info.

But it also does not list any hydrogenated oils on the ingredients lists. It's safe to assume that the transisomer fatty acids present in the product are the naturally occurring variety found in small quantities in animal fat. Let's see, about 3-5% of animal fats contains transisomer fatty acids. The nutritional label for this pepperoni and cheese pizza lists 16grams of total fats and .5grams of trans fats. That means the fats in this product are 3.125% trans fats.

This women will shocked to learn that the trans fats in this product are not "a dangerous food additive" but a naturally occurring lipid.

This woman reminds of the scene in Clerks when Randal is describing annoying customers. The one guy biatches, "What? You expect me to the drink this coffee hot?"

A causal relationship has been well established. Trans fats are many times worse (~10x, IIRC) in terms of increased risk than saturated fats.

Just because the media is stupid for saying "linked to" instead of correctly describing its causal relationship doesn't mean you have to go full moron by pointing out the implications of the word they incorrectly used.
