Well, they can't put gay humans to death like they want to, so they have to take it out on the animals.

What foolish statement? I merely stated my opinion which reflects the opinion of most non-pitbull fantics. They are a breed that should not exist in a modern society.

Silly troll can't even respond to the right person.  I'm not a pit bull fanatic.  I've merely met several of them.  I've been bitten bloody by more errant chihuahuas than barked at loudly by pitt bulls.  Guess which group of dogs had responsible owners?

Yup, it's all about the owners.'Pit Bull' is a media name that covers 3 separate, recognized breeds. Spuds MacKenzie is a pit bull, so is 'Spot' from the Target ads. It's similar to the 'scary-looking guns are assault rifles' classification that the media does to over-simplify a story for easier consumption. By comparison, while somewhere between 45-50% of dog bites in the US are from 'Pit Bulls', about 3% of dog bites in Canada were caused by those breeds. The problem isn't the dog or the breed, it's the owners that train the dogs to be attack, guard, or fight. The disproportionate level of aggressiveness in the US cases comes from a disproportionate interest in the breeds from convicts and criminals. I've handled maybe 2 dozen pit bulls in my life, all with responsible owners and I was in more danger of having my face licked off than being bitten.

/not a pit bull apologist or fancier, just a dog realist.

Yes, actually. For similar cultural reasons as they're popular in the hip-hop culture. Honestly, you start comparing cultural norms across income brackets, and race tends to disappear. Compare hip-hop themes with country music themes sometime. Different, but similar.

I agreel. Little dogs are more vicious and nip and snap. Big dogs are usually calmer but when they do bite it is more damaging. When pitbulls attack it is met by horrible disfigurment and/or death because that is what they were bred for. Rottweilers have taken the top spot in recent years for mangling attacks because of the proliferation of the breed and the asshats who usually own them, but they don't usually turn on their owners and owners family. Pitbulls were bred for one reason and being pets wasn't one of them.

Perhaps they were not bred for pets, but they can be trained to be docile.  Small dogs can cause disfigurement to a child when not well restrained, so saying that one is worthy of euthinasia and another is not is rather illogical, as we have agreed that both are dangerous when not restrained.

Killing a dog because it is bigger and it MIGHT bite versus letting a smaller dog live because it IS biting but it's bites are tiny (gangrene kills, yo), is kinda jacked.

Yeah, I hate to be all hyperbolic, but anyone who can do this to an animal for suspected homosexual activity makes me wonder about their attitude towards human homosexuals.

Or, since the dog got adopted within two days - tinfoil on - the dog's nothing of the sort, but it was an owner that couldn't afford to take care of it anymore, but wanted to make sure the dog didn't have to die.  So he turned him into a cause celebere.

I'd be willing to believe that if it was pretty much anywhere but Tennessee.

Not even 200 years ago, Black people in this country were being bred like animals for one reason. Something tells me your opinion of them is quite similar to your opinion of Pit Bulls. You've probably never considered that we, as humans, are such terrible sacks of shiat, we can't even be trusted to raise a dog, let alone treat a fellow human like a farking HUMAN.

?

I know, posting a response to someone with "troll" in their name is a confusing thing to do, but I did it anyway.

If you're gonna make his post dodge the ignore filter I had on him, at least add something interesting afterward, OK?

You can't put enough seasoning on a piece of shiat to make it edible.

Yep. It's so blindingly obvious, yet people still cling to racism and preconceived stereotypes. It's almost like they just want to feel better than a whole shiatload of people as opposed to actually acknowledging a huge problem with society.

Interesting thread. Pit bull hate (or trolling) seems to trump the hate (or trolling) of the south.

I find it interesting that underlying assumption among many of the commenters in TFA is that the owner is some bible thumping redneck.

But the breed of the dog, the location of the story, and the degree of outright homophobia suggests the owner is a blah person from the south.

/never call a black man from the south a "punk"

The AR-15 of the Dog world?

Sensationalized incidents of horrible violence, despite smaller varieties actually doing more damage...Defended to the death by owners while others shake their heads, and ask "Is there a good reason you NEED one of these?"

Interesting that the paper that spewed bile and outrageous homophobia over the death of a gay pop star should defend a "gay" dog by referring to Bruce Bagemihl's excellent (and sometimes hilarious) book, "Biological Exuberance". I can only conclude that they are massive hypocritical twats. Which is what I thought anyway about the Daily Fail.

Terrydatroll: Putting the dog down because it is gay is the epitome of ignorant. Putting it down because it is a Pit Bull is the smart thing to do. Still, being a Pit Bull being put down for any reason is acceptable.

Well, technically that's not why the animal shelter is putting it down, that's just why the owner gave him up.

Unless your premise is that I'm the smartest person in the state, and I know damn well that I'm not.

Oh.  You could be.

Or, the owner knew darn well what aggressive dominant behavior looks like, and decided he could either train the dominance out of the dog, or just go, "Screw it, I'm not putting that much effort into making sure a Pit Bull type mutt is well socialized" and dumped it.

That's okay, we can still agree that the dog's owner deserves a lead pipe across the back of his head (assuming the gay thing was the real reason for the surrender).
