SomeCallMeTim: You are more right than you know. I worked at the St.Louis zoo for years and that's what they had to do. They would anestithize (sp?) the elephant (or rhino, giraffe, etc) and hook up this metal sheath to it's penis. It would be attached to a bunch of electrodes on this huge machine.

Flip a few switches, turn a knob and sit back and wait. Electro-orgasm!! Fortunately my job was to knock the animal out. The vets got to collect the goo. It worked every time.

Which leads me to a story about the Zoo's christmas party one year. Seems I had had a little too much tequila and.....

Ahh...the memories are coming backs now.

Here's a picture of what we used. You would stick the male animals hoo-hoo into the white dilly-willy and turn on the juice (no pun intended). The 'probe' looking thing would be greased up and stuck up the animals poop-shoot to help matters.

We would use these "dummy mares" for our more shy zebras. The vets would electro-anally stimulate the zebras until they got an erection, then get him to mount this thing. One of the vets would 'assist' it's hoo-hoo into the hole. Then we'd all sit back, have a beer and watch. Sometimes some 70's porn music helped.

Class dismissed.

bigpeeler, Somecallmetim there was anintresting article on ark this summer (i believe this summer at least) about the worlds worst job. it was about a fellow who went around the zoo and collected sperm samples, BY HAND (of so literally). It was funny, supposedly orangatags like to cuddle afterwards.

Electroejaculation is par for the course for AI programs. I had to do it on a koala once. Pigs you dont need to bother, give them something to climb on and they'll give you 250mls of the good stuff (yep, 250!). The only animal, to my knowledge, that cannot be electroejaculated rectally, is the domestic dog. A friend of mine was an AI vet and used to get these snobby breeders who wanted to enter their show dogs in the program. He would hand them a glove and a cup and say "Off you go!". Amazing how many people lost interest after that...

When I went down to Mexico, my friend's sister had one of those. That was the most affectionate cat I have ever seen. It could not function if it was not around people. It would get so annoying because if you were the only one home, it would follow you everywhere, even into the washroom.

I had a friend who was an agriculture major. She had a class on livestock production or something, basically went over how to make more pigs and cows when you've only got two.
