For a guy who can barely write/speak at an elementary level, that's quite an eloquent apology

I can almost guarantee you that this is a sentiment that's shared by the whole organization, and by every organization in the league. Certainly not by every player or member of the front office, and it's certainly not their official position, but it's an unspoken rule.

There's a reason that not a single player has ever come out of the closet during his playing career in the history of American major professional sports, and it's not because there haven't been any gay players.

Culliver and the 49ers will take the field on Sunday against the Baltimore Ravens -- a team which features a very outspoken pro-gay rights advocate Brendon Ayanbadejo.

I'm sure Culliver played with him.

Let's hope the 49ers are the first NFL team to sign up with the You Can Play Project and create a PSA for next year. Hockey is working hard to break down the openly gay athlete barrier. Other sports need to get on board.

Hell, Ohio State is having a gay hockey night tomorrow and releasing their You can Play video and working with a Columbus gay hockey team for a social before the game

And he would probably respond to that with, 'as long as he kept it to himself, and not push his gay agenda around me, then that's fine.'

By the way, WTF is a "gay agenda"?

6:00am -- Wake up, shower, brush teeth
6:30am -- Breakfast
7:00am -- Leave for work
7:50am -- Arrive at work
8:00am -- Check and respond to emails received overnight
8:20am -- Use mind-control ray to make straight males lust after chiseled dudes
8:30am -- Team meeting....

Barry McCackiner: Your average dude may intellectualize the need for gay people to have the right to marry, but they don't necessarily want a bunch of gay dudes around.

Culliver wasn't asked a direct question about showering with a gay guy or even having to share the same bed in some weird "our hotel is overbooked for the road game in Atlanta" situation. He flat out said they're not welcome on the team. Period.

I don't know a single person who supports gay rights who has a problem simply being around gay people, and I actually know people who DON'T support equal marriage rights but don't object working with them or hanging out with them at all. What he said, while stereotypical in a "dumb machismo jock" kind of way I don't think nearly represents the whole as you make it out to be.

Barry McCackiner: Stories like this are so stupid.  Ask any joe schmoe across the country about the "gays" and you will get a similar type answer.  Ask a football player and OMG THE NFL IS SO INTOLERANT AHAHAERARARARAGGHGHGHGHGHGHGH.  There are 53 players on every team, most of them (like Culliver) are not used to being interviewed all of the time.  The Super Bowl media days are crazy, you take players who normally have no podium and you give them access to worldwide press all day long.  Eventually many of them are going to say stupid shiat.  Who cares.  He apologized and learned his lesson, what is he, 25?  Man I still say stupid shiat and I am a 30something.  Move on.

You'd think that in a concern worth $8 billion, a sub-concern worth hundreds of millions, a roster of coaches and teammates - SOMEONE would sit these chuckleheads down the day after the draft for a seminar called: "How Not to Make Your League, Your Team and Yourself Look Like a Staggering Jackass".

They can pay me $30k ($1k for each team) to do it, and I promise not to take up too much of their golf/club time.

For an example of this, see:

funk_soul_bubby: Artie Lange baited him into this. He took advantage of a young black male and the machismo that comes with that culture.

This. Artie Lange baited him into this. He took advantage of a young black male and the machismo that comes with that culture. He knew what he was doing.

Not defending Culliver. He will learn from this, which is a good thing.

Artie probably immediately went off air and made 3-4 gay jokes. Because that's the type of POS he is.

Baseball has MILLER Park. GoDaddy's (current or previous) spokesbabe was a NASCAR driver. MLS has a franchise named the RED BULLS (which give you a boner wings). Fark, even GOLF has those same sponsorships.

Football's not the worst offender, and commercials aren't tailored per-sport.

Unless its Aaron Rodgers gently placing his fingers on another dude's lips.  Actually, I can't think of any commercial that you're referring too.  Well other than the guys sitting around the tv/tailgate and every girl is a model.  They put pretty people in their commercials like everyone else.

/Also, you will go from crazy cat lady to pretty lady who attends cookouts with Drew Brees.

The proper response to @Cullyinthehouse isn't to mock him for insecurity over gay rights, but to mock him for buying fake Twitter followers.
