deanis: Cythraul: jake_lex: I hate to break it to Culliver, but it's probably pretty close to an absolute certainty that he either has a gay teammate now, or has had one at some point in his career.

And he would probably respond to that with, 'as long as he kept it to himself, and not push his gay agenda around me, then that's fine.'

By the way, WTF is a "gay agenda"?

6:00am -- Wake up, shower, brush teeth

7:00am -- Leave for work
7:50am -- Arrive at work
8:00am -- Check and respond to emails received overnight
8:20am -- Use mind-control ray to make straight males lust after chiseled dudes
8:30am -- Team meeting....

Let's hope the 49ers are the first NFL team to sign up with the You Can Play Project and create a PSA for next year. Hockey is working hard to break down the openly gay athlete barrier. Other sports need to get on board.

Hell, Ohio State is having a gay hockey night tomorrow and releasing their You can Play video and working with a Columbus gay hockey team for a social before the game

What makes Culliver think a gay guy would be attracted to him?

From      "No, we don't got no gay people on the team, they gotta get up out of here if they do."

To         "The derogatory comments I made yesterday were a reflection of thoughts in my head, but they are not how I feel. it has taken me seeing them in print to realize that they are hurtful and ugly. Those discriminating feelings are truly not in my heart. Further, I apologize to those who I have hurt and offended, and I pledge to learn and grow from this experience."

Wow, you're not even farking trying.

That's later in the afternoon, between the weekly budget review and the forecasting conference call, but before the evening's marriage destruction.

Ow! That was my feelings!: "He continued, "Can't be with that sweet stuff. Nah ... can't be ...in the locker room man. Nah." "

WTH?

Freudian slip?  For a straight guy he does seem overly concerned with "sweet" gays.

It's like the PR equivalent of "Just because I sucked one cock doesn't mean..."

Depends on your local chapter.  Here in Maryland we restock glitter after marriage destruction, since we throw so much glitter around in celebration for every destroyed marriage.

/not rooting for the Ravens Sunday because this one guy's a bigot

That would be good if they did that, they already did an It Gets Better video.

As for hockey, I'm convinced that the main reason that nobody's come out yet in the NHL is because hockey players have it ingrained into them from the time they first set foot on ice as a toddler that hockey is about the team and you don't draw attention to yourself for anything other than what you do on the ice. The players who are most disliked by fans are the ones who draw too much attention to themselves and their off ice behavior (see: Avery, Sean). Being the first openly gay professional hockey player would draw way more attention for non-hockey reasons than the average player would want to deal with.

Has Anyone mentioned Kwame Harris yet?  I'm too lazy to read the whole thread.

I'm sure Culliver played with him.

sigdiamond2000: This isn't really a controversial statement. Any man who has spent any time playing amateur or professional sports would probably agree with this. I know that it was certainly my experience. And I'm not so old now that I believe the culture of the locker room has changed that much since my time in it. I don't know. I guess I could be wrong, but I'd be surprised.

like at Penn State, for example?

iron_city_ap: What makes Culliver think a gay guy would be attracted to him?

True. I was reminded of something that happened when I was a young girl in my first "real" job. There was a guy at work who was an insufferable asshole and he was hideously ugly to boot, just a giant fat loudmouth crybaby who thought he was the most important person in any room he walked into. I was young, naive, and given to kindness to strangers, so I mostly ignored his horribleness and thought that somewhere out there, there was a woman who would love him.

Well, one day some exec's wife ordered a stripper sent to the office for her husband's birthday. We got the whole show. Everyone was drawn to that side of the building by the stripper music to watch her dance, such that I was afraid the place would tip off the hill with all of us crowding around to see what the hell had interrupted our lawyerly pursuits. The obnoxious guy was standing near me and said loudly, to no one: "I'm gay so I wish this was a guy stripping!! HAW HAW HAW!"

I looked at him, shocked (I was young, naive, and it was a different time), and thought "He's doomed. No gay man would ever want him."

Granted, it's not so much a cliche as it used to be, but in general, by and large, gay guys have taste ;)

Today he said this: "I'm sorry if I offended anyone. They were very ugly comments," Culliver said during an hour-long media session. "Hopefully I learn and grow from this experience and this situation."

If you offended anyone? You play in S.F. You offended 20-25% of the citizens of the greater S.F area with your comments!

anyone point out yet that blacks are often homophobic and racist, yet demand that they not be treated in the same manner?

The Giants, 49ers, A's & the Warriors figured out long ago that a lot of the gay people who move here are sports fans and they have money the teams have been very tolerant for years. Gays might support their hometown team when in town but they adopt the local teams as there own & spend their $$$ it's all about the $$$.

The Raiders won't change until Al Jr. hires somebody who can actually run a team.
