I meant to mention...jump to 48 seconds.  That's when the shiat gets real...

My post...I just have to say that I'm completely blown away by this little girl's ability to "bob and weave" her way out of a hit.  Obviously, her Dad isn't going to punch her (until she's 14) but her avoidance is amazing.  Most kids (like my sone who's in Tae Kwon Doe) are taught to back up... this kids just hangs in there and doesn't flinch.  Given her age (4? maybe?), I'm pretty impressed...

Also...her counter-punches are so natural and fluid. To me, it's almost mesmerizing to watch...  It's like she's been doing this for three years or something...

Wow.  Obviously he wasn't hitting/swinging at her real hard or fast but she had beautiful moves to bob & weave.

/did I miss something?  After the headline warning I was expecting her to drop kick dad in the jewels somewhere along the line.

No...I was just thinking that if you're smart, you won't mess with that little girl, which made me think about how short she is, which made me think of where she would most likely punch me, which made me feel sorry for my balls.  That's all.

Ah, thanks for walking me through the line of thought.  That makes sense now that it is spelled out in the excruciating detail that apparently I need.

i know nothing about boxing but... since he can't be mobile she isn't learning footwork. hopefully he is doing something to work on her footwork. maybe if he squatted he could move in a circle somewhat.

Good for her but I hope this doesn't give her the idea that she could do a damn thing to an adult male bent on hurting or abducting her. Same thing goes for an 10 year old with a "black belt" in Taekwando.

Time would be better spent on teaching her to run fast and far.

No one had to teach me to run fast. How can you even teach that? Reminds me of trying to teach someone to be tall.

Sometimes you have to stick the baddie.

First, you gotta scream like a woman and keep sobbing until the other turns away in disgust. That's when it's time to kick some back! And then when he's lying on the ground, kick him in the rib, step on his neck and run like hell.

I could take her. No, really, I think I can take her. She doesn't have any reach at all, she's just fast. Let me rest up a minute, all this typing. I'll be ready in a few days.

Also: Jeebus, this one is 10 and if there were three of me she could kick all our asses without even breaking a sweat. Makes my ribs hurt just thinking of what would happen if her sparring partner made a mistake.

Actually, that's the first thing we taught the kids when we dealt with self-defense in Tae Kwon Do.  If you can run, run.  Any attacking you will do is for the express purpose of getting yourself an opening to run.  Do not try to "beat" your opponent, just get out of there.  And then we'd pad the instructor up and let them practice going against an adult.

The sparring partner has a lot to do with the loud hits. If he stops basically slapping her gloves, you'll see a huge difference in perceived impact.

Yeah. You're right. She's just playing. Doubt she could fight for real.

It wasn't my intention to discredit anyone or say she was not a capable fighter, just saying that the loud pops are being exaggerated by the way the pad holder is slapping her gloves.
