Source Code was good.

UrCa: I don't know how much you earn, but even at my low-end wage that would be <.5% of what I would be making over the next 5 years (assuming I never get a raise). A substantial amount, yes, but hardly a footnote in the grand scheme of things. If you enjoyed it during the time you played it, then I'd consider it money well spent.

lilplatinum: A thousand bucks over 5 years is not a lot of money.  That's like buying, what, 3 or 4 console games a year?   Drinking 60 or so beers at a bar a year?

Yeah, little shiat adds up if you stretch it out over a long period of time, it doesn't make it a lot of money.  I am willing to bet that among forms of entertainment you spent money on in the past, WoW probably rates as a pretty good deal.

I earn good money; it's not "a lot".  But I have nothing to show for it at the end.  That's the part that makes me tell myself I'll never buy into another online subscription MMO game system again.  I could have taken a vacation; I'd have wonderful memories and photographs/video at the end.  I could have bought a new guitar or a new amp, really nice ones that I'd still be using today.  I could have bought a nice flat-screen TV.  A new computer.  An iPad.

I had fun, so it wasn't a complete waste.  I don't think mere fun is a complete waste.  But in hindsight it was an entertainment expense I probably could have spent better.  I had fun, but there was also an addictive quality to it that made me feel a little unsavory at times, increasingly so the longer I played.  I miss the game the way an alcoholic misses drinking, so it's probably best I stay away from such games.  To each his own, this isn't a commentary on anyone else who considers it money or time well spent.

lilplatinum: lilplatinum: I enjoyed WoW back when I played it, being on a pvp server made the monotony of grinding not so monotonous,

That being said, now that I quit smoking dope I'm not sure I could grind anymore.

Bingo :)  But I do agree with the 1K/year is really not that much compared to your average hobby.  An MMO isn't just 'a game' its a daily/weekly entertainment outlet and people will often spend deceptively large quantities of money on such things, myself included.  Hell that's cheaper then my vices alone.

This news would have been relevant back in 2005 maybe, but no one gives a Trogg turd about WoW anymore.

usernameguy: texdent: Half the movie is going to be about mining, enchanting, skinning, etc.

The other half will be people hurling racial slurs.

And the expanded edition Blu ray will have an alternate subtitle feature that spams "Dear Sir/Madam LZ click our site[www.SusanExpress.Com]. For the thankness to our old and new customers,SSEX provides the lowest price (1000=$12.88USD). Welcome to [www.SusanExpress.com]" every 45 seconds during the film for that truly authentic WoW experience.

I definetely feel that.  There were only about 2 or 3 months when I was pretty hardcore, back when we were first clearing BWL (ahh the good old days), but had I not scaled back from that I probably would look back on my life shortly thereafter as 'rock bottom' like the alcoholics say :)

Soulcatcher: There is plenty of lore and lots of great back stories, and quirky humor and in jokes to make a great WoW movie. That isn't what will happen though. The hack writers they hire will do the bare minimum required to make it even recognizable by WoW fans and still be able to call it a "film" just like all of the other game movies.

I hope I'm wrong, but Hollywood is pretty entrenched in lowest common denominator mode these days, and seem happy with churning out garbage just for a big opening weekend.

I think you nailed it, WOW does have such a rich backstory for all of the games they've done and yea Hollywood want get that. I really will be surprised if this has a major opening even and not a straight to video kind of thing after opening in 4 cities.

phantomht: just hope its better than the Dungeons and Dragons movie.
God that SUCKED.

LOTR sucked too. Elijah Wood. really? smh.
Have zero interest in any Hobbit movie also.

and ppl biatching about the cost of WoW. really? .... really?
Even at minimum wage the cost is 2 hours of work per month.
I think someone mentioned upstream somewhere.... if i wasnt spending 15$ a month playing WoW id be spending a WHOLE LOT MORE doing something else in the same amount of time.

Oh, hell yea that stuff was painful and clearly the writers didn't understand the source material it was just slap a brand on a crap fest.

I want biatch abouth LOTR it was some of the best fantasy we've gotten on film in well forever, but no I still haven't seen the Hobbit yet.

PsyLord: Who are they going to cast to play Leeroy Jenkins?

My vote is for William Shatner.

"At least. I got chicken."

I wonder if it will be some <i>Tron</i>-esque thing following a player into the Warcraft universe.

But then they'd have a faction fanboi problem, if they make it too single-perspective.  Maybe they could have a friend get sucked in to follow their lost buddy, but pick the other faction by accident.

Starcraft would make a better movie.

had98c: A WoW movie but no EQ movie huh? Lame. Also, need to make a freaking Wheel of Time movie already.

Nah, I don't want a month-long movie..

I'll go see it but I'll probably /ragequit right before the Cataclysm.

ProfessorOhki: Starcraft would make a better movie.

I think if they did the whole movie using the same people they make their Starcraft II cutscenes with, keeping the same voice talent, it would work. If they tried live action.. I think it would end up another Starship Troopers movie.

thecpt: enry: moon sucked

I can easily see how its not your thing, especially if you're not a fan of the genre (kind of a niche one, slow space sci fi).  Nevertheless, he did the best movie that genre has seen in awhile so I'd still expect good things from him.

I'll not be so magnanimous. Whoever doesn't like Moon= FARK YOU!

How do you make a live action movie about a group of people that are upset that they're all dead?

The movie will be a love story/drama about Mankrik's long search for his missing wife.

I want an Everquest movie.  The party is moving through the forest in west karana.  Up some hills and OH MY GOD A CYCLOPS!

Warrior: quick everyone, run diagonally!!
Party: wtf..really?
Warrior: Yes!  He won't be able to catch us!
Party: okay...
proceeds to run diagonally
party: hey...it's working!  How long do we run?
Warrior: To the other side of that invisible line to east karana.
party: invisible line...what the hell are you ........LOADING..........

Crudbucket: Shadowknight: When I sat down one night, I let out a resigned sigh and realized this is how I felt when I was getting ready to go to work at the last job I hated. I was paying to do a job that I didn't even like.

Exactly why I stopped playing any kind of MMO. The first time some guild member tried chewing us out by saying, "You all need to be taking this more seriously!!!" I was done.

Same here, WoW was fun when I was just running around bullshiatting with my friends, then it became "serious" and a farking "job" with raiding. Our guild disintegrated due to infighting about raiding.

/Met hubby on WoW so it was worth it

Gunther: Source code is amazing as long as you turn it off about 10 minutes before the end so you get a nice bittersweet ending instead of a ludicrous ultra-mega-happy ending.

Uh dude died at the end.   That whole thing with him seeing that building in Chicago that he keeps getting flashes of.  Thats him going into the light. No im not joking.  The end is him going into his own personal "heaven"

Raid butthurt has destroyed many o' guild. To be honest I'm hoping LFR has fixed a lot of those issues so people that want the phat lewtz can still get along in a fun guild that isn't in the business of raiding. I once upon a time was an officer in a guild during BC where it was at least a 6 hour commitment each night to raid and do all the crap that you had to do to be "Raid Ready." Not missing those days but I did meet a lot of cool people back then too so it was not all bad.
