casual disregard: Dr Dreidel: You're also not "getting around" the rule if a private concern buys I-95 from the government

Look, I'm a dumbass swede, and I can tell that's a sucker's investment if I ever heard of one. Buy I-95 from the government?? What's next, buy a punch to the gut from the local street-bully?

Heck, I-95 probably doesn't have much time left on Earth.

Or Folsom Street Fair in SF.

Meh, try the pride parade here in NYC or Washington Square Halloween bash.

also, i think you would agree that, abortion is a much more complicated issue than the type of clothes people wear.

"I have to admit, it's a major issue, women passing through here in that dress code," Simon Weisser, a member of Community Board 1 in Williamsburg-Greenpoint, told the New York Post."It bothers me, and it bothers a lot of people."

Well, tough titties. Suck it up and move on with your life.Bunch of nazis.

Religious extremism, no matter what the religion, is the problem. The cure is to move beyond religion, but we won't do that for some time yet. The mitigation is to crack down on religious extremists, no matter what the religion, when they decide that their laws, not the laws of our society as a whole, should apply.

The Brooklyn district attorney, Charles J. Hynes, who prosecuted the Weberman case, has now received allegations that members of a modesty committee forced their way into a home in the borough, confiscating an iPad and computer equipment deemed inappropriate for Orthodox children, officials say. Allegations have also surfaced that a modesty committee threatened to publicly shame a married man who was having an affair unless he paid the members money for what they described as therapy.

So they took away the stuff they bought at B&H Photo?

When my ancestors dreamed up Valhalla, they imagined themselves rewarded for fighting each other. Not some perennial foe or a daffy foreign invader - no, they imagined themselves fighting blood against blood. Not because they needed to do it, but just because they could.

I don't know where I was going with that. I guess the idea of Valhalla sounds pretty stupid by modern standards.

Ok, there I must take exception. Tall socks rock. They are also part of my look, and therefore my religion. Do not speak ill of tall socks.

That's for sure. Next to the Resurrection of Christ, Valhalla just seems nuts.

It's amazing to contemplate that our ancestors in antiquity used to have such laughably insane religious beliefs.

I think its a rule of law that Hasidic Jews be a-holes to everyone as that is the experience of most people who meet Hasidic Jews - they are overly dressed a-holes.

miss jinxed: I'm an orthodox jew and you'd never know it from meeting me based on what I'm wearing (especially now that it is winter here), though I do mostly follow sniut (modesty rules). You probably wouldn't know it if you spent several hours with me.

The orthodox jews I know frown upon these types of shenanigans. Rabbis I know openly speak out against them. This is a very small group and they are only given attention when their actions are particularly ridiculous. When something like this story comes out it embarrasses the entire rest of the community. 99% of the Jewish community does not want to be remotely tied to these people (I certainly don't). It is a super annoying and sad situation, but there isn't a good way to change it.

------

Of course there is. Those of you who are tired of being embarrassed by these sacks of crap can gather in large groups and accost them in public, screaming "STFU you self-righteous ASSHOLES!". Then you can grab their silly hats and frisbee them up into the nearest tree.

At least Valhalla had the grace to go the way of the dodo. I think there are few things worse than a death cult which forgot to die.

ozzie_stu: "They're considered crazy, but people don't want to confront them."

oblig ... you know who else they thought was crazy but didn't want to confront ?

Islamist extremists? Christian extremists? Or any other religious extremist group that one opposing religious group wants to uphold (e.g. Christians complaining about the silent moderate Muslims when a terrorist attack occurs, but those Christians usually remain silent and/or secretly cheer when their extremists preform unspeakable acts; which appears to not be isolated to any one religion), while ignoring the extremist acts related to their own faith.

Of course you don't want to be associated with those who remind you by their acts and words of all the mitzvah you break on a daily basis.

HAHAHAH, yeah, that's it.

Keep telling yourself that. You folks are always on about how no one in qualified and righteous enough to tell you how your business, especially those dirty goyim, well those folks who are protecting their tradition are just doing what you should be and all of you lawbreaking, covenant breaking Apikoyres know it.

They left Europe because they couldn't turn Europe into the theocracy they wanted.

Dudes... You're living in *Brooklyn.* Give it up.

I'm not saying you're wrong, necessarily... but unless there were orthodox jews among the Pilgrims I didn't know about, your anger seems somewhat misdirected.

atomicmask: This is the fruits of multiculturalism. This is what happens when you let everyone think that the little culture that couldn't form a coherent civilization is worthy of existing in a culture that could.

Maybe you should think back to when American society was at its most monoculturally white and Christian. Do you imagine that period was more open and free, or less?

www.sonofthesouth.net

Here's some reality; Pluralism is what allows for human progress, not homogeny. You're complaining about multiculturalism, but in fact you're doing exactly what the fundamentalists are doing; claiming your way of life is right and everything and everyone else is wrong. Acceptance and assimilation of new cultural influences is the only reason we're not still dressing in full length wool of fitting teenagers with chastity belts.

Any society that can't manage to raise it's men to understand that rape is a bad thing and makes it the women's problem can go fu*k itself.

As much as I want to respect someone's beliefs, I really want to stroll down the street in hot shorts and pasties.
