digitaldarling: pute kisses like a man: Bartleby the Scrivener: Take a side trip one afternoon down to the Bayou Barn in Jean Lafitte for a canoe trip in alligator infested waters. Tell em BtS sent you.

They'll say WTF are you talking about? but tell em anyway.

a friend of mine does kayak tours through bayou st john (goes through city park, sometimes ends up with po-boys at liuzza's by the track), so you don't really need to take that much of a side trip.

so who is it that does the tours?

Check on airbnb for cheap accommodations. I stayed at a house in Bywater for something like $25 a night back in December. Most nights I didn't get closer to the Bourbon Street than Frenchmen Street. There are plenty of easy going places outside of the French Quarter to have a good time.

casey.lurvs.bacon: I want to go.  I NEED A ROOMMATE.  If anyone has room to spare and wants to split cost, PLEASE MESSAGE ME.  I have very few needs.  6 hours of sleep in a corner, bathroom for about 30 minutes.  I'm easy to get along with.

She's very nice and funny, if that helps anyone decide.

For those that don't FB, here are some things that are going on, besides the Saturday night Official Fark Event Bourbon Street gathering:

Thursday lunch at Serendipity, Mid-City in the American Can Apartments. Time TBD, but probably 11 or 11.30

Thursday night Frenchmen Street Pub Crawl (time TBD, but starting out around Happy Hour time at Galvez, which, no, is not Frenchmen, but is a couple blocks away and they are excited to have us there. Foolish mortals.)

Friday night - Official Fark gathering at The Bricks. AFAIK, it starts at 7 with a Crawfish boil, there'll be an open bar for a couple hours, some music, etc. Take the St. Charles streetcar and get off at the St. Joseph St. stop and it'll be a half block from there.  Unfreakable knows more.

Saturday afternoon - Freret Street Festival, Uptown

Sweet thanks.  This is my first fark party so i'm wondering if we just show up for these events or do we need to sign up somewhere first?

The Official ones...Sat night on Bourbon and Friday night at The Bricks, you just show up.
The Frenchmen Street Pub Crawl, just show up...same with Freret Street.....
The only one I really need to know is how many people will be joining us for lunch on Thursday at Serendipity, so I can let Chef Chris know what to expect.

As far as other stuff going on that people are doing, just ask around and join in whatever sounds good to you.

I'd also like to comment, for anyone reading Unfreakable's original post up top, that those plans have changed, so pay attention to the thread. The Sat gig is still correct, but Thurs and Fri have changed (as evidenced by my previous posts).

Also, if you're on Twitter, follow the hashtag tweets for information, as well.

Since there's an open bar, I assume there's an entry fee?  Any idea what that is?

And I assume this is still on:

"Saturday (4/6) will be the party at the Voodoo Vibe on Bourbon Street. Entry will be $50, which is only to cover the venue (with the balcony) and the open bar. It will be limited to Farkers only."

I don't think there is a fee, actually....this is a sponsored event, so....ask Unfreakable.

Yes...Sat night at Voodoo Vibe is still on.

Finally managed to update this Fark Party thing, it's been bugging me all afternoon.

So, here are the updates:

1) The Hilton is full. There may still be rooms available at the Garden Avenue hotel (http://avenuegardenhotel.com) with the code FARK, but you have to call them.

2) The main event is Saturday night at the Voodoo Vibe. It's limited to Farkers and our guests, and will be $50 per person, which just which covers the open bar and the venue itself, which includes a balcony overlooking Bourbon Street.

3) We also have a Thursday night pub crawl planned, a Friday afternoon activity, and also a Friday night party at The Bricks. Huffington Post is sponsoring that one by getting us the location (and somehow convinced New Orleans Rum to give free drinks to Farkers--a mistake no sane person makes twice)

2013-03-29 06:32:20 PM
I cannot afford it this year but I highly recommend attending.
You farkers were fun last year.

Never been to a Fark party of any sort, but my hometown deserves a good group of people. I put together the following guide for other out-of-town visitors earlier this year. Feel free to use, lose, combine with other suggestions, mix, match, shake, stir, and puke up anything you don't like.

Restaurant Recommendations, by Type

(You'll notice there aren't many downtown places here. Personal preference)

Seafood:

·Deanie's in Bucktown: a taxi ride into Metairie, but well worth it. Perfect, home-style seafood in a relaxed atmosphere. The Crawfish Quartet is legendary.

·ACME Oyster House: either downtown or in Metairie (on Veteran's). Larger seafood joint, but some of the best oysters in the city (get a dozen chargrilled as an appetizer). Also make great seafood platters, burgers, etc. Louder and busier than Deanie's.

·Drago's: best oysters in the city. You'll definitely pay for it, though.

Creole/Cajun Food:

·Joey K's on Magazine: fun, small corner restaurant. Great food at fair prices. Also in a neat area of town with other restaurants/evening locations to explore.

·Jacques-Imo's Café on Oak: uptown location you can take the St. Charles Streetcar line to. Truly unique restaurant. Be prepared to wait for a table. Fancy, authentic creole food. Pricey, but worth it.

Po-Boys:

·Domilise's Po-Boy and Bar on Annunciation St. (uptown, take taxi). Small corner po-boy store and bar. Been open forever. Has famous clientele on the walls. Best shrimp po-boy in the city (debated). Grab it to go and take the cab to Audubon Park to sit & eat.

·Frankie & Johnny's bar and grill on Arabella (uptown): more of a sit-down place, but phenomenal po-boys and side dishes too.

·Parkway Bakery & Tavern (Bayou St John area): legendary po-boy spot where locals eat on game day. Get something messy, like roast beef.

·Mahony's Po-Boys: heard great things, but never been personally.

Burgers & Whatnot:

·Cowbell (Oak St., uptown): best burger in the city, for my opinion. Not much on the menu, sort of hipster, but the sauce they use would start a war. Amazing. Good spirits selection as well.

·Company Burger (Freret St, uptown): another good burger place, with a variety of sauces. They're also in a great location to walk around & explore (Freret St. corridor is a new area in town).

·Dat Dog on Freret St: hot dog place with attitude. Hundreds of toppings and great beers. Very cool, fun, casual place. Cash only.

·Port-of-Call on Esplenade: long-established burger & potato joint. A staple of the neighborhood.

Downtown Places:

·Coop's Place on Decatur: Hole in the wall bar & restaurant with the best red beans & rice in the city. Fact.

·Central Grocery on Decatur: Italian grocery store that invented the muffaletta. No, seriously, they invented it. They're huge and delicious there.

·Napoleon House on Chartres: nice location, a bit on the pricier side, but the food is phenomenal and the location is historic.

·Mother's on Poydras: famous landmark. Get there early for breakfast, as the omelets are worth it. Good po-boys too.

Other Places/Things To Try:

·Juan's Flying Burrito (multiple locations): quasi-mexican food with unique flair and twist. Cheap prices. On Carrollton & Canal and Magazine.

·Café du Monde: famous location in the French Quarter has never closed. Ever. Split and order of beignets and some café au lait for a great breakfast or late night treat. Other locations in Metairie, if you want to avoid the crowd.

·Anywhere on Frenchman Street: night location with bars & music, less touristy than the quarter, more locals. Always a unique place to hang out.

·Abita Beer (especially Amber, Turbodog, and Purple Have), Nola Brewery (Blonde and Hopitoulas)

·Cheesecake Bistro on St. Charles: New Orleans's personal take on the Cheesecake Factory. Better entrees, large portions. On streetcar line.

·Camellia Grill on Carrollton: legendary all-day breakfast & countertop joint. Historic to the city, legendary chefs there, cheap greasy food. Worth the wait outside. On the St. Charles streetcar line.

·
