The Sewer Urchin: No Doctor Who?

Love the show, but other than the faces (earlier) and addition of lightning, it really hasn't evolved has it?

Actually, it did.

Doctors 1-3 had the howlaround effects, 3 and 4 had the slitscan effects and vortex, 4-6 had the neon and starfield, 7 had the horrible CGI effects, 9 and 10 had the same CGI vortex, 11 has had a few different variations on the vortex, with it now settling on the vortex with the subtle reintroduction of the Doctor's face.

Yep. It's a Bonanza type map.

I understand that.  My favorite was the switch to the starfield.  What I meant is even though it changed it didn't evolve "with the story" per se, it just changed.

rugman11: Two they misses that I can think of: Battlestar Galactica (where the survivor count changes whenever somebody died, left, or joined the caravan) and Psych, who will actually change the theme song (a Christmas version, a Spanish version, and a Boyz II men version off the top of my head).

Done in two. Psych was my first thought.

Honestly, the Onion's list is pretty much "changed with the actors". So Who fits as much as any show.

You're wrong but you're entitled to be so, just as I'm entitled to point it out. Is there something specific that you don't like or are you just a blind hater?

There are no moments like this in contemporary science fiction, nor this, nor this, nor this, nor this, nor this - and that's just what I can dig up quickly. Then you have the fact its influence on the genre is undeniable with Paramount stealing the basic premise to make DS9 and changing from SFX to CGI. The most recent example is the re-imagined BSG which used B5's rules for having the ships follow known laws of physics during flight sequences.

This. John "Johnny" williams going from "meh" kiddish to Star Wars/Jaws/Jurassic Park/Indiana Jones scale anthem really shows his development as an artist. Shame its one of his lesser-known.

Something I don't like? Yes, the show. Comic book/soap opera tripe with a sci-fi glaze.

I have to laugh when you credit the show with "inventing" the rules of physics that BSG happened to use (other than the Galactica's "impulse" engines being constantly on = constantly accelerating). 2001 did it 20-plus years before B5 did. DS9 switching to CGI had nothing to do with B5 either: having 600 Federation ships go up against 1254 Dominion ships and not being able to use motion control did, not to mention by then CGI was a mature FX technology by then (B5's pilot looks little better than The Last Starfighter).  And that old conspiracy chestnut of DS9 being a "ripoff". I'll tell you what's a ripoff: Whitestar = USS Defiant.

Most long running anime series do this. How many Openings has One Piece had at this point?

and I remember Sailor Moon used to change their opening credits mid-season to reflect changing storylines and hide spoilers.

2013-01-31 06:42:14 AM
What no Quantum Leap? Even the spoken lines were changed. And of course each season had a different montage.

And yes Small ville changed quite a bit when Michael Rosenbaum left and they added and subtracted other actors.

I didn't realize I was talking to Sheldon. If you're reading comics that portray and convey the same emotion and ideas contained in this scene, then I want to know what comics you read.

What 2001 did 20 years earlier, while being amazing for its time, pales in comparison with what was done in B5 and it didn't stick either did it?

So what if the pilot looks little better that The Last Starfighter, the CGI was done on Amigas FFS, as was the first season and part of the first. It was also pioneering much of the tech, so in that context alone the CGI scenes were very good but given they also portrayed exactly what they were intended to overall they were spectacular.

The fact DS9 is B5 modified for the Trek universe is not an "old conspiracy chestnut". It's well known that JMS pitched B5 to Paramount 6 months before WB who picked up. He also pitched it as a 5 year arc which had to have included some detail which would've included outlines of both wars portrayed in the show, so epic battles between huge fleets would've been in what Paramount received. The only thing you've got is that the Defiant debuted before the White Star but in the grand scheme of things it's not significant because a new weapon being created in response to a threat is standard in real life, as is making things smaller and more powerful. If you want to nit-pick specifics then I've got one better: Species 8472 in Voyager are ripped off from the Shadows, and if you really want to get picky the idea of where they came from was lifted from "Knives". It wasn't enough that they based an entire show on B5's premise, Trek had to pinch ideas for alien from the actual production to use in parallel series as well

mrjared: Also, the inclusion of Sons of Anarchy in this article was stupid. They used some Dropkick Murphy's or whatever over the top of the regular theme song because...hey, the Sons are in Ireland! This was not innovative or interesting. And they changed the thing right back. I really was expecting to see the Drew Carey Show mentioned in here.

This one was my favorite...

If I remember correctly, it was supposed to be a vicodin bottle in the same artistic vein as everything else. Somebody vetoed it and they settled on a shot that had nothing to do with anything else for some reason.
