I guess the Lovecraft references were getting a bit repetitive, as were quotes from john carpenter's 'The Thing'.

yeah, but that'd be too intellectual for fark.  they'd probably make BDSM jokes about Shackleton then giggle for the rest of the afternoon.

Maybe we could have gone with a more misogynistic headline? Something along the lines of "Group of scientists try to drill frigid woman, get about as far as I do with my wife". Or "Woman gives scientists the ultimate cold shoulder"?

So what you're saying is that since the headline floats in water, it weighs the same as a duck, and is therefore...um...?

The Stealth Hippopotamus: Maybe we could have gone with a more misogynistic headline? Something along the lines of "Group of scientists try to drill frigid woman, get about as far as I do with my wife". Or "Woman gives scientists the ultimate cold shoulder"?

Given that the reference to a woman was introduced solely to shoehorn in a Python quote and no frozen woman has actually been found, your suggestions might be overly meta.

I think it was a loose reference to SG-1 that turned into a bad Monty Python reference.

I came to say something similar about the lengths subby went for that one. Maybe a Thing or Cthulhu reference is passe around here now.

Sorry, folks. Python and Cthulhu are right out. Subby messed up with the headline, that's all. Clearly the headline should have been a reference to SG-1, though the 'Hildegard Lanstrom' and Red Dwarf reference deserves bonus points.
