And they'll all be left in the dust by a Honey Boo-Boo rerun.

2013-01-30 08:39:40 AM
Well then.  I guess that makes what they say right and true since, you know, truth is dependent upon the number of people who believe it.

Really.  The incessant humping of the ratings by 24 hour news networks is so...  farking...  meaningless.

People make such a big deal over which cable news network is winning the ratings battle when the truth is they all still get crushed by network evening news. We're talking about 1.6 million viewers for Fox News primetime in January as compared to 9.2 million for NBC Nightly News, 8.2 million for ABC World News, and 7.2 million for CBS Evening News.

But, I was told network nightly news was old and irrelevant because they don't have 18 million viewers like Kronkite had?

Because more people are turning away from cable news programming? It's like claiming you're the world's tallest midget.

Fox News viewers are dying and aging out.

"The Ed Show" at 8 PM was up +4% in total viewers and +23% in the demo. 9 PM's "Rachel Maddow Show" was up +11% in total viewers and +32% in the demo. "The Last Word with Lawrence O'Donnell" was up +26% in total viewers and +34% in the demo.
at 4 PM, "Martin Bashir"
was up +41% in total viewers and +102% in the demo, easily showing the
most growth of any show on the network. Both editions of "Hardball" at 5
and 7 PM were up double digits in the demo.

None of their top shows are news, they are all opinion. People only tune in for the hate and leave when they start to report anything approaching objective truth, even if it's still spun like a top.

They should change their name to Fox Opinion Chanel, or simply Bullshiat We Made Up to Make Stupid People Feel Superior.

It is a fantastic way to corner the market... Go so far to the right that like-minded people feel you are the only ones speaking for them...then complain that all the other options are wrong/bad/LIBERAL  as though there is only one place for a conservative to get the truth.

What else are they going to do?

What's cable? I think I read about that in history books.

/Oh right, that thing my mom pays more than a hundred a month for to watch Wheel of Fortune

Honestly, I don't think I've ever tuned into cable news during primetime unless there's some sort of breaking news event.

As long as the ratings include elderlies who doze off at 10 with the TV on and empty dentists' waiting rooms, Fox might be on top for a while.

I used to watch Fox News. That is until Glenn Beck left. His show was the only one worth watching.

It can have shows like 'Math You Do as a Republican to Make Yourself Feel Better'.

Yeah subby, in other news, people spent 500 million dollars on the first two Smurfs movies.

Just goes to show, there's no accounting for taste. Now go back to your Jersey Shore marathon.

2013-01-30 10:11:13 AM
This shiat is so stupid. The people who want conservative news focus just on Fox News, because it's geared for them. The people who want actual news go through tons of other channels. I, myself, go through BBC News on my iPad, but I can also watch Al Jazeera, RT, NHK, NDTV and several others, along with CNN, MSNBC etc.

/Though CNN and MSNBC really aren't "news" per se. A channel that has a red carpet special for the SAG awards rather than reporting actual events, really can't be called news.

Vodka Zombie: Really.  The incessant humping of the ratings by 24 hour news networks is so...  farking...  meaningless.

Ratings are considered a "fair" way to price your advertising space that the regulatory agencies won't generally get on your ass about. So, de facto, they correlate directly to how much revenue a given program generates for its owners.

Admittedly, I don't know why viewers are expected to care, particularly, but they are pretty important to track from a corporate perspective.

That's a very interesting and enlightening original opinion. I haven't seen that all over the internets every time someone mentions fox news for the last ten years.

I no longer watch Fox News, they've gone too far to the left. They just don't criticize 0bama enough any more.

"Up w/Chris Hayes" on Saturdays (8 a.m. - 10 a.m.) increased 7% with A25-54 and 17% with total viewers from Jan. 2012, while FNC and CNN were down by double digits from last year.

Good...good.

The funny thing is... what cause the death of US news is the demand from the network that it had to be profit-driven. News used to be a mandated public service, now it's entertainment.

Fox News is liberal.

It WAS different in the 90's. But after bringing on liberal after liberal, they've been infleunced to the prevailing liberal view. The constantly pushed and schilled for both McCain and Romney. So I stopped watching. There's no piece of news they can tell me that I haven't already seen online anyway. I could care less about their "brilliant" commentary.

Fox being the highest rated cable news station is like me currently having the nation's best-selling cassingle.

I came to say this. There seem to be a lot of establishments that run Fox News on the lobby tv as background noise. I think it's because they flash a lot of bright colors and they're heavy on the graphics. I'd like to know what percentage of these businesses is affiliated with Murdoch in some way.

I wonder of HLN is cutting into Fox News' demo at all. They both feed their audience a steady stream of needless outrage.

Alright, I don't watch much TV (not a hipsterism thing, I just live in a reception dead zone), but has MSNBC ever actually said "Everybody who disagrees with us is racist" during their news reports? I've never seen it said on their website, outside of a few clearly-labelled opinion columns.
