(KATU)   If you took a picture of Portland's famous "White Stag" sign, you owe the city a $100 royalty. Subby reminds everyone that he purchased the Brooklyn Bridge photo rights, and is charging $50 for a one-time license   (katu.com) divider line 10

If it's so "iconic" how come I've never heard of it before this in my life?  Granted I'm way on the other side of the country, but I am keenly aware of the iconic "Hollywood" sign, the famous Vegas signs and others.  Never heard of this.

He couldn't just take down that one photo?

Then he wouldn't be cutting off his nose to spite his face.

The laws regarding the recording of other persons and property by means of http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Photography">still photography, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Videography">videography, and http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Audio_recording">audio recording vary by location. In many places, it is common for the recording of public property, persons within the public domain, and of private property visible or audible from the public domain to be legal. But laws have been passed in many places restricting such activity in order to protect the privacy of others.
Others, as in people.... not signs.  Good luck with that one, Portland.

News photog for 15 years I was, and if I could SEE it from public property, I could SHOOT it.  That means if your curtains in your house are open, I could legally take pictures of you doing shiat in your own home.
.......and I did.......

Lots of money to be found on google.
