(TreeHugger)   Just in case there aren't enough things in Nature to freak you out, there is a species of spider that has figured out how to spin a lifelike decoy of itself out of web in order to fool its enemies   (treehugger.com) divider line 25

First of all, I don't even know what this is. If it's supposed to be a spider, then it's the shiattiest spider I've ever seen.

I like spiders, so these efforts of nature are wasted on me.

Oh, that's nothing. The ventroquilist spider can make a dummy of itself and make it talk using a nearly invisible thread attached to its mandibles. It then sneaks up on its prey and picks their pockets.

Thanks! You've been a great audience! Tip your lady bugs!

Nature is weird, wild and wonderful, the old biotch.

Ha!

This one would receive an "A" if the assignment was to throw as much random shiat onto a web as poorly as you can. I've pissed patterns on snow that look more coherent than this. F

To those that say we need more space exploration, some would say we haven't even finished exploring Earth yet.

/I say can't we do both?

It's a decoy so it can escape being the crack spider's biatch.

I'm interested in the evolutionary advantage this offers. The article seems to indicate this fools its enemies. What enemies? Wouldn't this make its web less effective because its prey would be more likely to see the web? Wouldn't it be better to just spin your web and then move off and lurk on the periphery? Instead of advertising your presence? Could it be a lure to catch some predatory insect instead of a decoy? It's pretty cool, whatever it's supposed to do, but I think there's more to the story...

DRTFA, but are these portia spiders? Those little effers are entirely too smart. I don't like it.
