What a couple of vultures.

Oh, boy. Do they ever. Richard pops a viagra right before they go up there, and Peggy wears one of those short skirts with the crotchless undies.

FTFA:
"We had to wait in the hallway until there was some room and there is no room," Richard said. "There are a lot more family members that came in and they're taking the pews."

Arias' family took up a row and a half in the courtroom. We're told more of her family showed up Tuesday than in the past. The victim's family took two rows and the media three.

Why do the families get preferential seating? And why too, the press, for that matter? It's murder trial, not your daughter's junior high play. FCFS, I allays says

What a weird hobby. To spend your retired life watching trials of people whose lives are being ruined for ending and ruining other peoples' lives.

Traveling all over the U.S. = putting money into the economy for plane trips, gas, hotels, restaurants...

I'm OK with this.

/Hopes to be retired someday

They do this for fun? Come to my court so you can hear jovial stories of a 5 yr old boy being raped by his 14yr old brother. Or the kooky parents who chained their 3yr old (for fun) in a kennel and made her eat her own feces. That's entertainment!

Reminds me of the people who show up with 8 year old kids to frozen ponds with a cow/dog/elk/aardvark gone through. Hey! Timmy! Let's watch these people try to save this dog. C'mon, it'll be fun. Maybe they'll save the dog. Or maybe they won't, and you can have the enjoyment of watching this dog drown right before your very eyes. C'mon Timmy, let's go!

Unlike people who work in the system, they can pick the cases they are interested in.

/so glad I don't work in the system anymore....

Well, if you're looking for an excuse to travel, that's a good a reason as any. As a bonus, it probably takes you to places you normally wouldn't travel to.

Or you can spend retirement like my dad did, deciding whether the day would require either pants or his bathrobe.

I think the title should be...

Retired couple that doesn't have sex anymore travels country to attend high profile court cases.

Maybe they don't have cable.

this isn't totally unusual, lots of retirees spend some days (or mornings anyway) in the courtroom listening to trials. they don't go travelling to do it tough, they just go downtown, so that part's weird.

You want real?  The thrill seekers should try Jury Duty.
I'm willing to bet that they haven't even considered helping the process along by volunteering.
Which in my mind, turns them into Voyeurs.  Sitting in court, licking their lips, trying to keep their hands off their privates, foreheads glistening.
ugh

It's like the guy stopping to watch the car wreck in the opposing lanes.

Want to help?  Want to be part of the solution?  Contribute.

people - ugh

I once sat through court proceedings while waiting for a case I was involved in. I was 10 and waiting for the trial of the guy who assaulted me. If you can sit and not worry about what is about to happen to you, it can be entertaining. Night Court covered this by pointing out the courtroom regulars that were not there to face charges.

Now, let's not get all crazy like getting dressed and go somewhere without our supply of snacks.

I would love to do this.

My wife and I are a couple of years from retirement and she and I participate in triathlons and ironman events. We're probably going to sell our house, purchase an RV, and spend the next 20 years chasing races across North America. It's always been our dream. To each their own.

It could be argued that this would go against the right to a public trial.

I can kind of see the point of this. My mom used to take me to watch trials when I was about twelve because it was free and movies cost money. Dad or Grandma would watch my little brother and sister, Mom and I would put on our business suits and we would go watch a trial or two, then go to King's and have a nice lunch where we discussed the merits of the cases without any names, as well as how things might end in a novelized version. It was something special just for her and me.

She also took my younger brother to rehearsals of the ballet and local modern troupes, because he loved dance, and she took my sister to see every church choir in five counties. For his own part, Dad took me to the rehearsals of community-theater book plays, my brother to dance competitions and my sister to observe the vocal auditions for musicals.

We may have been poor, but Mom and Dad successfully raised a singer, a dancer, and, to the extent I can claim that title, a writer.
