That is so damn boss.

Good on you, Christian Bale, for doing that for Zach.

How many dead hookers/puppies does he have in his closet that pushes him to try to regain this many Karma points?

That's all fine and dandy, but given enough time, the kid is bound to get in his sight line.

The first video got me to following this kid (Link), and I feel invested now. Thinking of sending him a donation (Link 2).

Kid's had some scary ups and downs. I can't imagine losing a child or their other children losing a brother.

I can just imagine the next time this kid goes to the playground - "Guess who gave me this backpack? You won't believe who!".

Christian Bale is one cool dude. Hope the kid gets well soon.

I find it really weird to hear a little kid refer to Batman as "The Dark Knight." I mean, obviously its because of the movies, but still. Weirds me out. I'm like "No, no, he's way too young to be reading Frank Miller!"

Stuff like this is another reason why Christian Bale is one of my favorite actors. He does a lot of cool stuff
like this for people under the radar - the only reason we ever hear about it is because the recipients of
his generosity themselves go public about it.

Does he have his asshat moments? Sure. He's only human after all, not the goddamned Batman. But he
is also the first to admit when he was an asshat. Remember when he went apeshiat on the lighting tech or
whatever the guy was on the set of the Terminator movie? Right after it happened he went on one of the
major radio stations and was the first to admit that he'd been a tool and deserved all of the criticism and
mocking that he was getting.

All that's left now is for him to add "vampire" to his list of acting roles and my little fangirl self can retire to
her bunk a happy camper.

I didn't think it was a big deal, nor was it "bad." He's a pretty intense actor, and all reports were that it was a rough day of shooting, with one fark up after another. It's a wonder he didn't yell at people earlier.

I say fark that. No matter how bad a day is in the film industry, it's still a day in the film industry. If you have to tear a 5 min long bloody strip off of someone who's trying to also do their job on set, you're problem isn't that poor baby has to act all day under "trying" circumstances.

If you've never had a bad day and lost it on a coworker that is great. Many people have and are embarrassed about it later. It shouldn't stop him from being able to do good things later on.

I'm not one to coddle actors. I think pretty much anyone can do what those spoiled over-paid crybabys do. I'm not kidding. Having said that, however, I believe at the time they were actively filming a scene, when the (I believe he was a gaffer) walked across the set into Bale's line of vision. As I said, I think anyone can do what he does and it should not have bothered him, but at the same time, it is pretty SOP to not do that during filming, so the guy kinds deserved it.

Have I snapped at a co-worker before? Yes, yes I have. Have I ever spewed an inappropriate, curse laden diatribe at a head of a department while his subordinates, peers and the rest of the crew stands by? He shouldn't have done it. A simple, "I can't rehearse while you're in my eyeline." Would have sufficed. And being a big time actor, he should have known that in between takes, sometimes even when rehearsing is going on... the DP will want to adjust the lighting so that the film... you know... looks good.

And I'm not saying that he can't do good things, it's just that "intensity" isn't an excuse to behave unprofessionally.

My understanding is that they were rehearsing (I may be wrong). And if the gaffer's farking about while a scene is being shot then a simple mention would have been enough for him to go back somewhere else if it's so egregious that you can't possibly continue. Otherwise, the AD would be on the guy and remind him that Bale's particularly sensitive to stuff going on when he's "creating" and to just wait for the take to be over before walking. And maybe the DP told the gaffer about a stray bit of light he wanted flagged for the next take or he had something important to get done so that they could continue shooting efficiently. Set is a chaotic cluster fark half the time as it's a race against time where you try to get 18 different things to happen at once. If you can't take that kind of activity level, perhaps you'd be better off acting on stage instead of on a big budget film set.

The other thing about actors is that there's going to be shiat in your eyeline a lot of the time you're acting. Sometimes, if you're acting with a CG creature, a farking tennis ball is your eyeline. Your job is to pretend that you're someone else, somewhere else and that the film crew doesn't exist.

Bad - vertical video, mom's open-mouth chewing her gum, and the GOOD FOR YOUs

It could have at least been Dark Knight stuff since that's the Batman the kid obviously loves. Plus- it wouldn't need to be screen used. Lots of awesome replica stuff like masks made out there that would make that kid's head assplode.

Maybe. The point is I agree with the sentiment that sending your assistant to Wally world to buy a bunch of cheap Batman junk makes Christian Bale the 2nd coming of Mother Teresa. It was much cooler that he actually called the kid.

Here's the thing. People walk around quietly on set when shooting's going on all the time. Yes, you try to keep it to the minimum, but my assumption would be if the DP is walking around during a take (I checked by the way, it was the Director of Photography and it wasn't a rehearsal as I thought, it was a take) he's probably got a good farking reason for walking around.

Film crews are under enormous pressure to make sure they make their days and overtime is ludicrously expensive considering you're paying OT for probably 100-150 people on a show of that size. If arguably the 2nd most important off-camera person on set decides they need to walk somewhere, it's likely for good reason. I would have accepted a, "Dude, I'm acting here!", followed by an apology, followed by the next take... but a "If the director of photography isn't fired, I'm not working on this show anymore!" followed by an apology followed by 4 more farking minutes of Bale lecturing a guy who probably knows more about filmmaking then Bale will ever know.... that's out of bounds. Way farking out of bounds.

In the middle of a scene that had taken several extraordinary attempts to get done. I have always said that folks who are in drama and are actors are strung a little differently from other people, so if you are going to check the lights, interrupt a scene that an actor may have nailed, get fussed at for it, then GO AND DO IT AGAIN, well, you're kinda in trouble.

Mercutio74: Madbassist1: You're making excuses and assumptions, but hell, I see your point. If I was making that kind of money, their could be two people farking in my sightline and I'd rattle of the gettysburg adress like nobody's business.

Well you obviously know more about the subject than I do. I was under the impression that that "just isn't done" apparently I am wrong.

bales p.a. forgot to include the letter explaining how those were all limited edition toys which if unopened could be auctioned later on ebay and would pay for the funeral

flamiard: Bale really did a good job of making people forget his meltdown on the Terminator 4 set.

He did handle that incident well though...

I don't think he made anyone forget it - or is overcompensating to make people forget it. I think that
the fact that he owned up to it, didn't try to make excuses, and apologized to the guy went a long
way toward the whole incident just blowing over.

It's not like Mel Gibson who gets nailed going on a tirade and then tries to deny it or spin it so that
it looks like someone is just "out to get him".

Very touching, but we must continue to educate people about vertical video syndrome.
