Outdoor flares fired indoors? Check

2000 people in a club with a max occupancy of 1000? Check

No sprinklers or functioning fire extinguishers? Check

Only one exit? Check

Clubs operating permit has been expired since August? Check

I certainly hope someone ends up jail for this.

Was that wrong?

Tribute bands can be great but they rarely bring down the house.

More than one person. Unless maybe one person does all those jobs.

Aside from that, the exit(s) were not clearly marked, the bouncers were originally stopping people from leaving and some exits were chained closed. Plus the whole club was a death trap in waiting.

I watched that 12 minute video of the Station fire in Rhode Island. It was so hard to watch, especially the part where the people were stacked atop each other in the doorway like a barrier, blocking anyone behind them from escaping.

I can't imagine walking into a bar where there was fire purposely set indoors and staying more than 2 seconds.

Not happening.

Ever.

Trying to get out of a fire? Here's some toxic gas for good measure.

There are about 5 in jail lat time I checked. One club owner, band manager, fire marshal who deemed the club safe, plus a few others. Some others are still on the run such as the second owner, and the band's singer who lit the fire.

Looks like the person came flying out the sunroof.

As for the story, sounds like the perfect storm of fires.

I've seen something similar (but with less people) on YouTube.
So all you people who shout DIAF,DIAF, you might have gotten your wish and should feel guilty.

/what the hell's an indoor flare?!

Good hopefully there is an example set with these people.

Sorry, but that was not "the" reason. Having worked with a few bands that did nightclub appearances, I know that some venues are just not suited for pyro, period. Every time I read about some disaster like this, I feel glad for every time I told my employers "no pyro tonight" due to small stage crowded with combustible materials. Was happy to endure the shouting and threats that followed, knowing that I never put anyone in a burn ward or worse. Prayers for the families, kick in the raisins for the pyros.

I'm with you. I do plays in regional theaters around the US and have run into guys who want to have explosions or braziers or dudes with flaming torches on stages with ceilings no higher than the one in my apartment. I've had to threaten to call the Fire Marshall on a couple of guys.

Never mind the fire, the smoke will kill you.

Actually, as many differences as similarities with this and The Station fire.

The Station wasn't over occupancy per the fire code
The Station was being legally operated with a valid license
The emergency exits were not closed, locked or chained
There were 4 exits, all open, though the place was a hodgepodge of confusing hallways
While the Station didn't have sprinklers, the fire marshal told them they were grandfathered and didn't need them.
The Station's main error was in using the wrong insulation, and of course, even considering allowing pyro in a club that small without sprinklers.

Unlike the fire in Brazil, The Station was mostly legal. The lesson is that fire can kill FAST.
