they want Hilary confirmed as nominee so the are getting out of the way for once.

Wow, that was quick.  Guess they're saving all the firepower for Hagel.

2013-01-29 06:34:09 PM
They think they're paving the way for Scott Brown.
I wonder, after 4 years as Secretary of State, what would Kerry's chances be if he ran again for President?

Three of them voted against it, but at least they didn't filibuster it

None. He's done. Even without the swiftboat attack, that's all it took.

Warren, on the other hand: unless she sends a stupid dick pick like Wiener did, she might be a shoo-in. That man was well on his way to 2016 but couldn't keep the sausage in the package, so he's out. And I really liked him. He was scrappy. He was a fighter.

Hagel's problem is that he's either anti-semetic or homophobic, so it appears he's getting hit from both sides.

Well, both those are made up and are only coming from the right, so not in the least.

Kerry himself voted present.

Yeah, only  conservatives are behind complaints that Hagel is homophobic.  How dare they.

And which Dems have said they won't vote for him because of that?  Because plenty of Republicans have bought the whole anti-semitism thing.

That was also a lame scandal. I never understood what was so bad about sending photos to other consenting adults and why that had to wreck his career.

I don't understand why Anthony Weiner's career was wrecked by some stupid photos he sent.  I thought that was pretty clear.

Because they weren't to his pregnant wife?

In all fairness, if the vast majority of employed people in this country publicly tweeted dick pics when we thought we were sending it out to someone other than we were married to, it would have ended up the same if the position was anything close to high profile.  Discretion is key.

I'd also challenge the assumption that his career was wrecked.  It's a speedbump.

The Derp Brigade is already on Facebook decrying this pick -- but not for the Swift Boat dongsneezery.

They're saying Kerry shouldn't have been picked because he married into money and never had to make tough decisions or fire anyone...like Mitt Romney had to.

Yes, I'm serious.

Carrying the AIPAC water I see. Israel is not the 51st state in our Union. It is a foreign country which practices apartheid and race-based contraception. It is a Nazi monster in the eyes of the whole world and one of our thorniest foreign policy problems - to question Israel and put American interests before Israeli interests is NOT anti-semitic, it's called doing ones duty for ones country and not being swayed by all of the money and influence brought to bear upon our Government by fundie mid-easterners.

Hmm..Not sure I really think the tax evading old flip-flopper John Heinz Kerry is really the best choice for this role. Hillary at least had some gravitas and her last name meant something internationally. Kerry is just so...ehh.

Has more to do with creating an opening for Scott Brown. They think he has a plausible chance of taking his seat.

They blocked Rice so they could say yes to Kerry. This gives them a chance to gain a seat via Scott Brown.

The ONLY reason this went so smoothly.

All Obama has to do from now on, for each position that comes up, is nominate someone he doesn't really want and have the appointee he actually does want on standby - since it seems like the GOP will always block the first nominee and then allow his 'second' choice.

(hopefully he already figured this out for himself a while ago)

Worked that way for Bush, too. Remember laughably inexperienced White House counsel Harriet Miers being nominated? After that huge flap we were just relieved to have a semi-serious candidate in Samuel Alito, and lo and behold he ends up probably being worse for the country in the long run.

I think the GOP is being very foolish to underestimate him.  They think he's still the John Kerry of 2004, complete with lack of spinal column.  They haven't been paying attention to the testicularly-emboldened person he's become recently.  That will be to their peril.

I was hoping no one would notice. Inhofe has a face like a baseball mitt full of nutsacks, and a brain to match,. The collective political judgment of this state gives me a big ol' sad.

Plus he's one of them. A member of their exclusive club. That trumps everything. Hilary was easily confirmed too. Susan Rice was an outsider.
