s2s2s2: A friend of my wife got married recently. I addressed her as Mrs. (Husband's last name). She defiantly corrected with the hyphenate.

"So you are showing your female independence by keeping a name you got from different man?"

Makes no sense to me.

Whenever a woman corrects me with her married name I scream, "I'm not calling you by your slave name!", so I guess it swings both ways.

I get the feeling feminists are coonts with severe penis envy,...

Who are these cartoonish feminists that you refer to?
Every woman I know is a feminist (ie believes that women have the same rights as men) and none of them are like this. I have never met a woman like this. It is probably just another stereo type created by the Rush/Faux news crowd that insecure males adopted.

Kept my own name when I got married. Explained my reasoning to family and inlaws and no-one else has ever had a problem with it.

My mom & stepdad both had the same first name: Lynn & Lynne. They didn't hyphenate.

The My Little Pony Killer: Why are feminists sneering at a woman making her own choices in life?

Because they're angry and bitter at the fact that they're still not legally allowed to take the last name of the seven cats that they're "married" to.

That he will not win. So you think you are special and so forward thinking. Well, good for you, it's not illegal, it has a $400 filing fee and you have to fill out the correct paperwork.

It's not hard, quit whining

In Florida, the stated policies of the DMV as available to the customer for name changes after marriage do not specify the gender of the spouse who is changing a last name. The marriage certificate is the only document you need to change your last name to your spouse's last name; you do not need to pay a $400 filing fee and you do not need a name change order from the Circuit Court if you have a marriage certificate. The guy in the article did everything in accordance with policy.

TL;DR version: You're wrong.

Know a guy who changed his last name into a hyphenated version which included his wife's last name. No problem for many years until they moved to Idaho. The drones at the DL office confiscated his (valid) license from the other state because of the name issue, claiming that it was fraudulent. The also told him that they would have him arrested for driving without a license if he tried to drive home.

Fark_Guy_Rob: I know it's not a popular opinion - but in my experience with authority figures like the police, irs, government, TSA, etc, etc.... is that 99% of the time they get it right.

I'm quite sure there is more to the story they aren't telling you.

You mean like the FTC lawsuit against the guy? FTC vs Prime Legal Plans d/b/a Lazaro Dinh aka Mario Lazaro Sope

A woman taking a man's surname is clear evidence of patriarchal oppression, duh
