I had them at 21 and wanted to die.  She's in for a rough time.

Hope she has some Cawamine lotion.

Do you know why the don't recommend the Shingles shot until you're older?  Having had the pox at so late an age, I'm worried.  Gonna ask my doc during my next checkup.

I've had shingles outbreaks 3 times. Not the really painful kind, just an annoying skin blistering.

I don't think that is an upgrade subby, chicken pox can be very problematic in the elderly, and very young. I'm sure she is on the best anti-viral and getting the best hospital care money can buy, but it is still pretty scary.

Just had my first bout of shingles. Annoying, mostly. Gonna get the shot.

Had once as a kid. My wife had it three times as a kid. Not much fun.

Got chicken pox at 16. Remember that being the worst I've ever felt. High fever along with the itchy red spots. All I can really imagine it like is having the worst flu and attacked by fire ants at the same time. They say the older you get the harder it hits, best to have it about 5-10 years old. Can't imagine having it at her age, but at least she can afford the best medical attention money can buy.

That is weird - but I'll add my CSB: My mom, who is 64, has never had chicken pox either. She grew up with 4 siblings and around lots of cousins - who all got chicken pox. She was a stay at home mom and raised me and my sisters -- who all got chicken pox as kids. My grandparents didn't remember her having it as a baby. The article makes me extra worried about her possibly catching it now - especially since she has Multiple Sclerosis, and because of it, falls frequently.

I had Chicken Pox at 10 y.o.. I felt a little off the first day of Christmas break and spent the rest of vacation sick and hallucinating from the fever. Sadly, I was ok to go back to school at the end of break. Worst Xmas vacation ever.

I have a friend who got chicken pox at 27. He was sick as hell for two entire weeks. He had long hair and ended up buzzing it down because his scalp was covered in pox. Poor guy.

Same here. I became known as "that chicken pox girl." I had them all over the top half of my body, particularly my scalp and back, and I had trouble breathing for the first few days. I was laid up for two solid weeks, and just as I was getting over them, I got the flu and was out of commission for another week-and-a-half. The scars, however, were permanent.

I got shingles in October and I'm still dealing with it. Horrible nerve damage in my leg and I don't think the pain will ever go away. Bummer. Good pain meds though.

This useless old whore getting some kind of venereal disease is a whole lot more plausible than her getting chicken pox.

37 and never had it; terrified of getting it. Both my brothers had it as children and my mom even kept me home for a week while my little brother had it to deliberately expose me and I still didn't get it. When my little girl gets it, I'm spending a week in a hotel. I do not want to go through that.

Yeah, thankfully had them when I was a teen. Can't even imagine what type of agony one's gonna be in when they get as an adult.

Hope she has some Cawamine lotion.

Had shingles at 20. Literally wanted to die. My buddy had 'em a few years back at 38 y.o.

Wouldn't wish it on my worst enemy.

You can get tested to see if you have the antibodies in your system.

You aren't getting her the vaccine? Kids today don't have to go through Chicken Pox.

I can see the advantage of a vaccine not only in preventing a kid from getting it, but also in preventing him or her from spreading it to younger siblings. I got the pox when I was almost 7, and it spread to my sister and brother who are respectively 3 and 6 years younger. It sucks for a kid at any age, but I don't doubt it's more stressful for the younger ones (and possibly more dangerous, healthwise).

My step-dad got Chicken Pox the year we were all going to Hawaii for Christmas. Trip cancelled and we all had to be quarantined from our relatives so we didn't even get to have Christmas dinner with the family. Yay.

I've gotten some itchy little blisters on my finger, palm or the front of my shin a couple of times in the past couple of years and eventually figured out it must be shingles. I haven't worried about it too much but a friend of my Mother has been suffering in pain for months - I'm thinking of looking into this shot thing.

I've never had chicken pox and I'm 31. I got a blood test to confirm that I wasn't already immune, and my doctor was pretty surprised that I'd never had them. I just got the first dose of the vaccine. After reading this thread, I'm glad I did.

She's only 20 months. Her pediatrician won't give her that vaccine until the normal regimen for children under 2 is finished. I want her to get the vaccine, though.

Chicken Pox Party! Come one, come all! If your toddler hasn't had 'em yet, there's no time to stall. Hip hooray, happy, oh happy day the day you spot 'em! Nobody told me I had never had 'em, now I got 'em! Have I hit the bottom yet?

I can remember having them so vividly. It was 1986, I got to stay home from school all week by myself. Lying on the couch all day eating cereal and watching taped episodes of ALF and playing my NES. Best week ever (except for the part about having Chicken Pox).
