Yeah, but the physical regimen he'll need to go through won't be anything compared to Wash's.

Unless that is, a certain franchise's eighth or ninth instalment comes calling?

Now they're just flinging names against the wall.

So just do it then. Unless you have an enormous coke habit, you have to the bread from The Avengers. Follow Lucas' example and fund the thing yourself. It's not like any of the actors are going to be demanding huge paychecks. Stop talking about it and just do it while everyone is relatively young. And get Summer Glau naked.

"When I made Serenity, I said here's one thing I'll never do again - a movie based on something that some people know about and some people don't, with tons of characters who all know each other and who you have to introduce. And then my second movie was The Avengers."

Joss, please, only do this if you're going to ignore Serenity, the movie put you in a pretty tough spot to follow from, and killed half the cast (and the comic took care of Jayne as well).

But the timing is right. Castle has run its course, Fillion could easily walk away from it if he wanted to. Baldwin is in between gigs now that Chuck is done (and now that I think on it, Zach Levi would fit in well with the Firefly cast), Summer Glau is a leper right now thanks to her show killing reputation, and I don't think that the rest of the main cast have done much of anything aside from voiceover work since Serenity. I dreamed a dream of the entire female cast of Firefly, plus that one redheaded recurring character, having a bikini pool party on the planet Bisperimentatia, home to the placid waters of bikini-and-inhibition-dissolving Lake Tequila.

I think this is a Firefly plot we can all agree would be awesome.

I don't know if Castle has "run its course" yet, but once the two leads got together I got the feeling that the show had peaked and could start to decline. It's still a very enjoyable show, but I figure they've got 2-3 more years, max.

The amount of time that has passed since Firefly is a problem in and of itself. You can't pick up right were the old series left off, because all of the actors are significantly older, and the passage of time has to be explained. They would likely have to introduce a slate of new regular characters along with whichever characters actually return (subject to Kilivian's idea of ignoring Serenity).

That said, I'd be willing to give it a shot if it happens. I gave Castle a shot because Firefly made me a Nathan Fillion fan, and it turned out to be an excellent show.

I saw Serenity before I saw the show, and I thought the movie was awesome so I got caught up. Yes, it's a shame that it got cancelled, but not as big a shame as the fact that HBO killed Deadwood just when the awesomeness was blooming. Space cowboys are awesome, yes, but [in my opinion] there has never been a more Shakespeareanly crafted show on the airwaves, ever...ever. And there's no way to have a movie wrap that up

Reason one why Firefly could have trouble coming back is the production cost.

Reason two is that the actors are all off doing other projects.

Solution: would anyone be opposed to an animated series?

I'm sure he is, but you just didn't really see it in the show, it wasn't obvious like it is in that drawing, he didn't really have that broad a shoulders, or at least the shirt he wore never showed it..

I know, I know, I'm nitpicking. Done right though an animated series could be great, as long as it wasn't "kiddified" because it's a cartoon. I still want Kaylee talking about things twixt her nethers, Innara still being a high class prostitute and doing her thing. Wash talking about Zoe and where he legs meets her back and so forth and so on.

Those seem to have aired during the two years I was in the dorms and didn't watch any tv. That's also how I missed Firefly first time around. I saw a preview and thought "That looks awesome, I gotta watch it"! Then never heard anything again until I saw a trailer for Serenity. I thought "That's awesome I have to watch it!". And I did, a couple of years later. Made no connection with the old canceled show I had heard about.

Finally a friend recommended Firefly and halfway through the pilot when it connected to the movie I had seen a couple of years before. Luckily I had forgotten all the deaths.

I'd watch new Firefly, but I don't think it will happen.

RoyFokker'sGhost: Klivian: Joss, please, only do this if you're going to ignore Serenity, the movie put you in a pretty tough spot to follow from, and killed half the cast (and the comic took care of Jayne as well).

(We will not mention V, that awful awful show)

Gina Torres is headlining 'Suits' on USA. And doing a damn fine job.

Plus she's guesting on Castle in a couple of weeks.

Two options reboot the whole series, new cast, same characters, same ship. Alternatively do a different ship and crew, maybe go from a Unionist side.

Book was always lifting with Jayne. He's pretty buff.

Book has plenty of reason to be buff, given his "dark and mysterious past" that wasn't at all like the agent from the movie *cough*.

Why is Kaylee bug eyed?

I'm sure he is, but you just didn't really see it in the show, it wasn't obvious like it is in that drawing, he didn't really have that broad a shoulders, or at least the shirt he wore never showed it..

I know, I know, I'm nitpicking. Done right though an animated series could be great, as long as it wasn't "kiddified" because it's a cartoon. I still want Kaylee talking about things twixt her nethers, Innara still being a high class prostitute and doing her thing. Wash talking about Zoe and where he legs meets her back and so forth and so on.

Tim Minear once talked about an episode he'd been working on when the ax fell. One in which the Reavers really did take the ship.

Judging from the details he shared, no, not kid's stuff.

You're right it's not for suicide. But I don't think it's what you think it is.

Spoilers!

In "brown coats unite" whedon says that innara has a terminal illness. That needle is medication.

That makes no sense. When she was going for the syringe, they were possibly going to be boarded by Reavers. Why would she be going for a syringe of medication for her terminal illness in preparation for the possibility of being boarded by Reavers?

You know you can OD on insulin right? It is straight from Whedon's mouth. It's also why she wanted to leave the ship.

All of this discussion ignores the fact that Innara is a completely pointless character. There's a flimsy excuse for her existence (she can grease the wheels to get the ship on certain planets), but we never really see that in action. Innara exists solely for Mal to pine for--whenever there is some need to fill the script with a scene or two. Without Innara, the show would not suffer. Notice that she was barely in Serenity.

The show had 14 episodes. Even Tasha Yar didn't have anything to do in the first season of TNG.

Also, we see her grease the wheels in several episodes. She saves them in Jayne's Town. She is central to My Kind of Shin Dig. She catches Brigyosafron in another episode. Also vital in Heart of Gold.

"Vital" is kind of a stretch. The only episode I remember where she had a direct impact on the outcome was the second one with Christina Hendricks. Even so, they could easily have placed another character there to intercept the laser pistol thinggie. She was the only character there that wasn't very well drawn, and she was by far the most pointless character. The same could be said of all of the episodes you mentioned. For Jaynestown, any Deus Ex would have worked then, and that's basically what Innara was: a convenient plot device. Yes, we could have learned more about her in the future, but I think her lack of things to do in Serenity indicated that Whedon just didn't have much to do with her other than some random pining now and again. The fact that she is supposed to be terminally ill only makes her more pat as a character.

I would be perfectly happy watching a Firefly animated series as long as they did these two things:

1. All the old cast return to do the voices.

2. River is animated in a completely different mostly-anime style compared to the rest of the show. Ethereal beauty, big eyes, eight heads tall, eleven thousand strands of hair flying everywhere. Give her a sparkly background, sfx for her mind-reading, bullet-time during fights, the whole megillah. Just Mary-Sue the hell out of her.

I would love to see it brought back. Just so it could get cancelled again. It could (and this is a big could) work as an animated series as it would drive the cost down. It would be prohibitively expensive to be a non-network show and no network would touch it.

The most likely scenario (except Joss has poo-poo'd it) is another movie. Why go through the hassle. If Star Wars has taught you one thing it should be to let something go once it's gone. The series flopped. The "massive" fanbase geared up enough interest to make a feature film...which flopped. It's a niche series with a decidedly non-niche budget. Ten years on even some of the most avid fans are turning meh to the idea.

//Enjoy the quality that what exists instead of mourning the possibility of what doesn't.

One more movie? Not sure if want..... they're all ten years older, so noticeable, and half of the characters are now dead.

You're actually right about that, but you know where you're wrong? Serenity DID suffer for it. The deleted scenes leave no doubt the movie would have been MUCH better leaving her in just because Inara and Mal are always screen gold. They also should have left the original version of the Operative reviewing Mal's service record for the audience. So much so in fact they should have Morena on Castle as the last major ex for Beckett to overcome - would be a hoot.

Older characters, big time gap - great - gives a LOT of room for story-telling, and Whedon has a lot of good storytellers on speed-dial.

As for M. Baccarin appearing on Castle - I like the cut o' yer jib. But I think she'd win - those eyes......

/ can you imagine the possibilities with some narcotic lipstick as a plot device on Castle?

I actually watched the Serenity bluray a week ago and went through the deleted scenes. I thought they did nothing but slow down the narrative. Innara is just generally a character that spawns apathy, and her presence in Serenity seemed forced ... mostly because after the deleted scenes, it was completely obvious she was crammed in to be the romantic lead. Films can exist without people having to do the romance thing (we had plenty with the Simon/Kaylee and Wash/Zoe stuff).
