"He is very distraught over the loss of life from the defense of his home," attorney Michael Puglise said. "This incident happened late in the evening hours when he was home with his wife and he assumed it was a home invasion and he maintains his innocence."

Were they trying to enter your home? Sure doesn't sound like it. From the story it sounds like they never even got out of the car.

Voluntary manslaughter.

I don't think you get to pull the "I was afraid of a home invasion" card when you go back inside your home, get a gun, go back OUTside and fire at a car being driven away.

Really? Wow.
Someone is coming up my driveway! Must be invading my house!
I'm sure he is distraught that people are on his property. Point a gun at a car and they go away. If they started driving AT you maybe then you would shoot.

Re-reading the article I realized that this idiot shot the kid as he was driving away.
Paranoia really screws with someone, especially older folk.

He shot in the air, they freaked out and tried to drive away and THEN he leveled the gun and shot the kid.
Good job "defending" your house....

FTA: "Diaz, 22, was shot in the head Saturday night as he tried to drive away from Sailors' home on Hillcrest Road in Lilburn, the warrant states.

Friends of Diaz, of Duluth, told Channel 2 Action News that he and others were trying to find a friend's house, but their GPS instead led them to the home on Hillcrest Road, off Indian Trail Road.

After seeing the car in his driveway, Sailors came out of his home, went back inside, then came out again with a gun and shot in the air, Yeson Jimenez, 15, told Channel 2. Jimenez said he and his brother were in the car with Diaz, along with a female passenger.

Diaz tried to drive away, but Sailors shot again, striking Diaz in the head, according to police

I don't think the problem is with guns, per se. I think the issue is why so many folks think guns are nearly always the right answer to a problem.

Ed Finnerty: Why are gun owners so afraid of everything?

In general we arent. The media is snatching up every single negative story they can possibly find to paint us this way. The rest of us dont twitch at the slightest noise and our guns ARE safely secured and dont get pulled at any chance. These stories are just the ones the make the media money and further their agenda so of course they are going to dig up every story that involves a firearm in light of recent events, regardless of wether it was a story they (or we) would have given a second thought to before.

Obama staged this so he could take our guns. Wake up, libtards!

2013-01-29 05:46:32 AM
The Obama administration is really pulling out all the stops in drumming up some grass roots anti-gun sentiment. What's next? Gun shots at a sports stadium?

No, the medias just doing great job of making a huge deal out of every headline that would have previously been ignored. Nothing scares people like making it seem like anyone who owns a gun is a nutcase about to start shooting people, and fear sells well.

Not even sure wat you said im just pointing out that the media is going to make big headlines out of what sells, and whats selling right now is the gun scare. This story would have barely made a sidebar before the recent awful events. Now it makes money to sensationalize every single thing that happens, so people think its an epidemic of random gun violence.

The media ran this story because a young man got shot in the head and killed; not because it's part of a vast conspiracy against gun owners.

I'm not so sure. Look at how well the media is playing this up to the administrations tune. Guns are dangerous and people with guns are out of control. Everyone is getting this feeling now. It's deliberate.

I'm not going to say that the media and the administration are in cahoots, but the media is certainly being used very effectively by the anti-gun forces within this administration.

You need to put down your gun and pick up a textbook that explains in plain English how to use an apostrophe. It will prove much more useful in the long run.

Honestly though, how bad of a neighbourhood do you live in when the first thing that runs through your mind when an unknown car pulls into your driveway is "well, this is definitely an attack against myself and my property"?

Look, every single time theres any kind of major event, every single thing related to the event that makes news starts popping up as a headline. Is there a new sickness that popped up? You get the sars or mad cow scare. After the 9/11 attacks there were terrorist plots being stopped left and right. A new car has a problem? Its an epidemic and that car has some horrible defect that kills people! Every single time something major halpens theres a huge increase of media attention on that subject. If this exact same situation had happened two years ago, it most likely would have made ocal news and nothing more. Gun control is a hot debate right now so of course anything that can make a story and furthermore make them mkre money is gonna get shoved to the forefront of the publics attentikn.

In his defense, sort of, the messicans have become a pretty big criminal nuisance/threat in that area. I can see him legitimately fearing the worst. Doesn't legally justify what he did, but that knowledge can take the edge off of the crazy a little bit. It's not like he was living in Aspen and a car load of rich white skiers got lost in his driveway in their Audi.

Damn media, forcing nutjobs to buy guns and murder people just so they can report on it and cause a public outcry giving the liberal conspiracy an excuse to grab everyones guns so they're helpless when the government takes over the world and forces everyone to accept the mark of the beast and bring an end to Gods dominion.
