I don't get all the hate in this thread. Its just the lab portion of a physics class, and it relates science and math to something real world and cool. Maybe you enjoy that tradition of engineers and scientists often being people who had poor social skills when young, it wouldn't hurt to make it a path bright but not awkward kids want to pursue.

Also, its one of the few physical activities where the small kids actually have an advantage, so that's a nice little bonus.

I'm ok with this

Anything that teaches people better spatial awareness, mechanical engineering, physics, communications, and teamwork is pretty cool... even better when its fun.

Just wait, some idiot with the same attitude as AverageAmericanGuy above will end up suing the school district so that 'everybody gets a trophy' and remove yet another incentive for kids to excel in class.

If you put the troll on ignore, all the hate goes byebye. :)

It sounds like a great program. Physics is always one of those dry, boring classes where kids ask the question 'how will I ever use this?' This gives them a fun challenge that also brings home the lesson in very real ways, and gives kids an outstanding reward for achieving goals.

AverageAmericanGuy: All our high achieving math students, 8, 9 and 10th grades have been rewarded for their achievement with a day at the track

So the rich white kids get to go race cars and the poor kids with bad home lives can go pound sand.

Sounds about right.

And just who's going to pay for that sand, hmm?! Ain't nobody a-raisin' my taxes, praise Jesus!
