The Newegg crushes patent troll article on the same page is much more interesting.

They managed to do what IBM, Oracle, Neiman-Marcus, Victoria's Secret, Nordstrom, Amazon, HomeDepot, Best Buy couldn't do -- stop a troll that was getting courts to order up to $40 M in damages with the goal of collecting 1% from every retail transaction on the web.

HMS_Blinkin: Oh man, if this becomes reality the Politics tab is going to get REAL interesting.

My first reaction reading the story was that if they tried to implement it in the US, every single comment on every message board would get flagged as "terroristic" because someone disagreed with the content of the post.  I know this because it's the first thing I would do.

Godfarkingdamn. What is on the internet should  not be regulated. Ever. Point-blank. Used as evidence to find dumb criminals, yes; deleting CP from someone's server is A-OK; but unless you can get a warrant in every single country for it,  don't farking do it.

Because People in power are Stupid: I've seen terrorists right here on Fark. Somehow they don't count if they are faux-patriots that brag about wanting to shoot cops if and only if those cops are coming to take their guns.

You mistake "internet tough guys" for terrorists. Here, have this helpful reference chart:

Terrorist:

Not a terrorist:
encrypted-tbn3.gstatic.com

You're not wrong. The guy from a few weeks ago, pointed a gun at his daughter over getting two B's? Charged with terroristic threats. Uhhh... what happened to good old fashioned battery? That charge still convicts people, right? Yeah, but it doesn't pad the stats for that sweet Homeland funding.

Terrorist is the new communist, just as communist was the new Axis. Take any group. Remove their humanity. Tell everyone they're the bad guy. Watch people organize around you. A formula as old as man.

DubtodaIll: It's got to be weird to live in a place where freedom of speech isn't at the top. It also must be strange to live in a world without american football at the top. I heard there were dragons over there anyway.

To be fair, our record on free speech is suffering a bit. Patriot Act, Free Speech Zones, hate speech laws, etc. It's not quite under the assault that the 2A is, but folks are slowly trying.

"Terroristic threats" is a real thing. I knew someone who was charged with it a long time ago, for pulling a gun on someone and saying some things. It's not a new invention of the post-9/11 days.

Have fun parsing through 10 billion clicks from the first day alone if this were ever implemented because people are people and they like to abuse things.
Not to mention any malware, bot, et al that would likely be created to flag every possible thing on the Internet as terroristic, for teh lulz.

As a youth I was sullen and suicidal but as I have aged, I have decided to stick around and see how the comic opera that is humanity plays out.

It's like a French Existentialist meets Toho meets world destruction production of Joie De Vivre vs. Godzilla and Derpaclese.
