Well...she's blond. And a woman, just like Britney. So yeah, just like her.

And I would have said "trailer park greasiness".

So desperate was Prince Willem-Alexander to marry Britney Spears, that he vowed to renounce his title in order to fill the comically oversized sneaker slippers left vacant by Jason Alexander and Kevin Federline.

Wat. So he can't be King. But from the NYT link:

The prince let it be known that he would rather abandon the throne and have a wedding in Buenos Aires than lose his bride.

Ok, so this was an offer.

Yeah, I'm not seeing it either. Of course it doesn't help that they don't have any decent-sized pictures of her, instead opting to show the same thumbnails over and over again.

Princess Maxima has always been one of my favorite royals. I like watching the various royal families because I'm a big fan of their jewelry- and Maxima's one of the few magpie princesses left. She trots out the diamonds whenever and wherever she can.

Now that she's going  to be Queen, she'll probably wear the giant Stuart tiara which hasn't been seen in the Netherlands in a long time- Beatrix never wore it.

Yes, I know- my hobby is lame. As far as I'm concerned, if you watch football you've got no room to talk.

Dunno, I thought she kinda looked like Ms. Spears, but my 6 year old daughter just looked at the pick at the top of the article and said that's a guy.  I thought it was a little harsh, but she was insistent.

I don't know anything about them, as they don't have a collection of historic jewelry that's fun to trace through the generations.

No, I think not, but thank you for the offer.

Somehow I doubt they'd be large or significant enough to be of any interest.

Eh, I'm a straight male who likes watching some of the British Royal family goings-on. I enjoyed watching some of the Diamond Jubilee stuff last year, especially that big boat parade. I wish I could have been there to see that. Seemed like a helluva party to be around, despite the fact it was raining. I must admit I also watched a bit of the wedding stuff.

I just find the pageantry and all of the traditions really fascinating- there are so many arcane protocol details in any events of state involving royalty and I find them all really interesting. Plus, I've found that familiarity with all the various royal family histories creates a pretty good framework for remembering historical dates and time periods.

The wedding stuff was a blast. We had a good thread here about it.

It's pretty interesting to read about some of the stuff that's been around for decades...regarding the Brits, at least. They make a point of saying stuff like "This is the carriage such and such used back in 1895," and so forth...a lot of those cars, boats, and carriages have their own wikipedia entries.

I was on the Island of Sint Maarten for five months.I got to see Queen Beatrix on a motorcade going through the city, which only has one main road.I told a few natives the queen waved at me...They asked if I had flipped her off. They hate her..The Dutch people I met on 'The Friendly Island' are just that.

Yup- All of the carriages involved in the Royal Wedding were used for other historically significant occasions as well. Trooping the Colour is another event that's always really fun to watch.

Did you know someone fired at the Queen once at Trooping the Colur, back when she was younger and still riding side saddle in the procession? The gun was loaded with blanks, but she wasn't even ruffled- just controlled her horse, kept it from going nuts and let her guards take care of business.
