"I mean, they could have strayed a little bit more from the original."

He's aware that "his" version was mostly adapting the comic origin story, too? Or should they deviate from that? This would cause even greater nerd-rage than the paraphrasing of Ben's signature phrase.

Peter kinda acted like a dick, especially when he was showing off his powers, but then I thought... if a socially awkward highschool loser got superpowers, that would be EXACTLY how he would act. Not noble and pious and "great power and responsibility" and all that crap, but like any regular teenager with a considerable advantage over his detractors. I mean, what's the point of having superpowers if you can't use them to fark with people?

So the movie was honest and realistic.

Waiting for the sequel when Spidey snaps Gwen Stacey's neck.

He was better. I liked Tobey back in the first two but I can't look at him the same after the third movie. And this movie was 1000x better than the third movie. In which Franco did nothing to help. I think they could do something really good in the next one, this was a solid but unnecessary retelling of the origins.

Carnage? No thanks. Nothing like making a new anti-Spiderman when your previous anti-Spiderman (Venom) goes face due to writers being hacks basically.

I enjoyed the heck out of TDKR and it remains one of my favorite superhero movies of all time. I saw a few scenes from the new Spider-Man and rapidly got bored.

What I've seen was okay, but appeared to be just another tired re-tread with a dull villain.

Carnage sucks. He's a crappy one-note villain. He's a byproduct of the "totally extreme" 90's where everything was grim and gritty in comics, so 14-year-old boys could feel like they were reading something "mature."

It was better than 3, even with 1 (give or take), and not as good as 2. It wasn't a terrible movie, but I would have preferred we skip the origin and get to the web-slinging.

Nah, it's just he had the same reaction I did... "Why?"

The original Spiderman movies were just a few years ago. We JUST had this movie in the theaters. Batman at least got a complete reboot. There was a purpose for that, an answer to the question "why" which wasn't just "we want moar moneys". The first Batman movies were campy and stupid, and the reboot cleansed the pallate and gave us some great films.

But the Spiderman "reboot" was pretty pointless. They didn't really try to change the tone or anything, it seemed like they just made another one of the same ones we'd already paid good money to see for no good reason. I had no desire to see the reboot in the theaters, and when I recently DL'd it and watched some of it I realized I'd been right. It was just Spiderman 1 all over again... but not quite as good.

I think Andrew Garfield is a far superior Spiderman and Peter Parker than Tobey Maguire was.  The reboot in its current form still has no business existing, though.

Monkeys throwing feces at each other is better than the 3rd movie.

I'm not sure what movie Franco watched, but the one I saw was way closer to the comic book Spiderman than any of the films he was in.

Peter Parker was a genius. ✔
The webshooters were invented by Peter and not part of his transformation*. ✔
Peter was a smart-ass, especially when in-costume. ✔
Gwen Stacy was Peter's first serious love interest. ✔
Dr. Connors/Lizard was one of his first major enemies. ✔

I think Franco is just being butthurt because The Amazing Spiderman didn't suck as much as he wanted it to.

*I know they did both throughout the comics, but originally the webshooters were inventions, not part of his superpowers.

James Franco is tiresome, but then again, so are Andrew Garfield, Emma Stone, and superhero movies in general.

Point goes to Franco because This Is The End looks like it might be funny, even if that's mostly because of Danny McBride.

thamike: I think Andrew Garfield is a far superior Spiderman and Peter Parker than Tobey Maguire was.

I disagree. I thought Tobey was almost ideal, and Garfield..... good enough, but not quite as good. The love interest........ meh. The love interest is pretty secondary in these films and nothing all that important differed from it being Gwen Stacey vs. Mary Jane. I do like me some Kirsten Dunst - she's extremely cute - but the new girl could have been plopped in the role in the original movies and it would have made no real difference.

If it wasn't going to be considerably different then there was no real point to this movie. Sony was just feeling particularly shameless, I suppose.

I feel that Tobey was a good Peter Parker, but Garfield was a superior Spiderman.   Granted one of my prime gripes with the original series of films was Spidey wasn't nearly quippy enough, and even when he was he didn't sound like his heart was really into it.

(Still got awesome Doc Ock in Spiderman 2, so I'm pretty pleased all around.......except for that brief period of my life where I tried to convince myself that emo peter parker wasn't the worst thing in the world.......)

And it's true to the comic. Peter tried to use his powers the way the rest of us would... Until his assholery got his beloved uncle killed.

I'm oddly amused at the reaction TDKR received. An overwhelmingly majority of critics enjoyed it and audience polls (IMDB, Cinema Score, etc) grade it in "A" level territory, but the minority of folks who didn't like it actually hate it... Like I can speak to five people who loved it, and one who thought it was dog sh--.

I've never seen such a weird contrast in a movie's reception. There's no middle ground.
