Hence why I think the Alannis Morisette song IS ironic. She didn't get the use of irony right once, despite trying to use it correctly. Maybe that's a little too deep...

She's already fessed up to that. The irony of the song is that nothing in it is ironic.

Anyway... I spent a long time getting annoyed everytime someone confused hypocrisy, cooincedence, or many other things that are not exactly irony. I've kinda just gotten used to the fact that since most people believe they are all the same thing, the meaning of the word has effectively changed.
