Thunderpipes: Litig8r: Ariel Sharon is probably one of the most vile, murdering, sons of biatches to have ever lived.

I hope he can think, feel, and experience the utter terror inherent in being able to experience reality, but unable to interact with it.

Hi Hitler, how's it going?

So you're going to defend a man that had his forces surround a refugee camp, prevent anyone from fleeing, and then allowed militias to enter and slaughter every man, woman and child in the camp?

My theory is that Sharon is the Beast from the Land of the Book of Revelation. The Beast was wounded unto to death but amazed everybody by miraculously recovering. He was given power by the Beast from the Sea, which is America, or possibly Europe, or the UN.

Since Sharon was much more pragmatic than anybody in the current Knesset, he will come out of his coma, resume power, and make peace with the Palestinians in exchange for land.

But "peace shall destroy many". Outraged by the peace, Christian fundamentalists in the US and the Arab nations will wage war on Israel and it will all end on the plains of Megiddo (just past the Golan Heights, on the road from Damascus to Jerusalem).

The Beast from the Sea will be Obama or some other world leader that the Christian Right hates as much as a Two State Solution, Peace with Muslims, and not getting their way all the time.

And naturally, the Image of the Beast, which speaks with a loud voice, is Fox News.

So we're good until my Sharona comes out of his coma. It'll take him some time to resume power and when he does, we have 7.5 years until Doomsday. Or something.

Interpretations of the Book of Revelation are all over the place, like interpretations of Nostramus, whose quatrians have been used over and over again for centuries by people who interpret them as applying to their own country rather than France. Anything that vague is sure to be controversial.

Well, seeing as how he cannot live and cannot die, a carnival should drag him around through the desert.

The One True TheDavid: Once? Sharon was minister of defense and then did a couple stints as Prime Minister that showed him to be belicose and vicious. Then there was his memorable publicity stunt in September 2000 where he led a few dozen of his closest heavily-armed friends to the Temple Mount on a Muslim holy day for no purpose than to start another round of intifada and repression.

Bullcrap. The palestinians admitted themselves that the second Intifadah was planned out months in advance.

The One True TheDavid: Sending rabid thugs into a ghetto at night to butcher women and children

Which he didn't. You have no farking clue what you're talking about. You're blaming him for arabs acting like rabid savages.

The One True TheDavid: There are many observant Orthodox Jewish Israeli Zionist critics of Sharon and such people and of their policies.

Criticism, sure. Not knowing what you're talking about like yourself is something else.

The level of visceral hate in expressing the opinion that somebody deserves a fate worse than death... and to suffer it for years... Is more than just "This guy did something terrible once".

"D[oing] something terrible once" is something driving while intoxicated and crashing into a church van full of old ladies.

This guy did the equivalent of crashing while sober into vans full of old ladies at the head of an army doing the same thing for DECADES.

So I say again, the fact that he's an Israeli is all that actually matters.

Sorry but no. No vile homicidal scumbag should get a pass just because he's Jewish -- which is what you mean, not "Israeli."

It was wrong in Rwanda when both "races" were black. It was wrong in Spain in the late '30s when both sides were ethnic Spaniards. And it'd be wrong if the killing were of Israeli Jews by Israeli Jews, or of Scotch-Irish Appalachians by Scotch-Irish Appalachians.

Or are you too warped by your particular version of ultranationalism to see that? Fascism is a mental and moral sickness regardless of who has it.

Sending rabid thugs into a ghetto at night to butcher women and children and lighting the night so they can see to do it better was wrong when the Nazis sent Ukrainians to do it and it's still wrong when Sharon and his ilk send Maronites to do it.

As for his responsibility, what if he had barred the way to the camps with the IDF? Or does a pregnant woman deserve to have her fetus ripped out from her belly because she's not Jewish?

There are many observant Orthodox Jewish Israeli Zionist critics of Sharon and such people and of their policies.

And there are many people of all religions, ethnicities and politics whose policies and rhetoric I oppose yet who I don't call 'vile homicidal scumbag.'

And then there are people like you who think its perfectly okay to commit any abomination against anybody so long as the criminal is of your "nation" and the victim isn't. Maybe they can find a bigger bed so you can snuggle up with your hero.

The One True TheDavid: Ah yes, the Sabra and Shatila massacre (link). For which the Israeli government's own Commission of Inquiry into the Events at the Refugee Camps in Beirut (link), in a document later posted to the Israeli Ministry of Foreign Affairs' website here (link), declared Ariel Ben-Dvora Sheinerman (link) personally responsible.

The ones who committed the Sabra and Shatila massacre were lebanese arabs. They were sent by Sharon's forces to fight PLO terrorists. But, in the great arab tradition (See karantina, Damour, Tal az-Zaatar, Khiam, Safra, Zahle, Ehden etc..etc and so on) they decided to slaughter everyone there, women and children included.

From your own link: "It concluded that direct responsibility rested with the Gemayel Phalangists led by Fadi Frem, and that no Israelis were deemed directly responsible, although Israel was held to be indirectly responsible". Israel forgot who they were dealing with and they should have acted accordingly. Not to mention that Kahan Commission was fronted by Yona Efrat, Sharon's rival, which probably lead to the commission's results.
