I read the book, and enjoyed it a lot. If this comes out anywhere near where I am, I'll go see it.

Here it is on Vimeo.

At first I was all disappointed and wanted to kick your scrote. But then I watched it and became quite intrigued. Thanks, subby. I love good cinema.

I feel like a bit of a tool but I'm actuallyexcited about this.  I read Kon Tiki as a kid and have always been a bit obsessed with this.

Talk about inserting oneself into their research.  I haven't seen this sort of dedication and self-sacrifice to prove one's theories since Buddy Love in The Nutty Professor.

So wait, Kat Dennings won't be bringing them by?

We all know you came here from that amputee porn site anyway, so it really is a moot point.

I met one of the directors Joachim Rønning at a screening recently, and I commented that it was amazing that I never even heard about Thor Heyerdahl or what he did when I grew up in Polynesia.

I felt the director was chastising me when he said "I'm pretty sure you SHOULD have known about him!" Since apparently he's a national hero in Norway and is "Bigger than Columbus". He also is apparently directly responsible for the spread of "Tiki Culture" and the preservation of Polynesian indigenous culture.

My bullshiat meter was going off like crazy during the conversation, but maybe it has something to do with a handsome white male telling me that the reason why my cultural identity still exists is because of his national hero and NOT from the efforts of the countless Polynesians who fought to preserve their own vanishing heritage from the onslaught of white colonials.

I plan on chatting with professors of Polynesian history and culture about my weird feelings on the film.

/The highlight of the evening was when the cast and crew walked on stage after the screening, some old lady said "What a fine looking group of men!"
//Norwegians = Hot

Well almost every international history class or literature class I took talked about Thor and other deities worshiped over time..... So he's probably right, don't know about tiki stuff though.

These guys had big clankin' balls, that's for sure. (Useless piece of trivia: Their radiomen had learned their craft as clandestine operators with the Norwegian resistance during WWII - one of them was instrumental in supplying intelligence about the Tirpitz, the other was part of the raid on the Rjukan heavy water plant. Badasses.)

I first read the book when I was in elementary school. It looks like they added some shark attacks in the movie to make it more exciting. Hollywood is incapbable of following the actualy history and facts.

Never heard of this guy, so I looked him up on Wikipedia. It claims most anthropologists disagree with him, but there is some DNA evidence to suggest he might have been right.

I'll have to watch this movie or read the book.

From the wikipedia article: However, in 2011 Professor Erik Thorsby of the University of Oslo presented DNA evidence to the Royal Society which whilst agreeing with the west origin also identified a distinctive but smaller genetic contribution from South America.

Apparently only people with "Thor" in their name are allowed to study Easter Island.

Heyerdahl's work is proof that plausibility is not the same as probability.

He also proves that so called 'primative people' were not stupid.

Actual history and facts you say?

Which book were YOU reading?

At first I was confused. That's Edward Norton, not Thor. Ohhh, you meant Hulk movie.

Wait.  Definitely not Hulk. Then I saw the fella's name. Ohh, Thor Heimdall. WAIT? They had to combine two characters from the first movie into one? Saving on casting costs or something? Outrage.

You almost got me, subby!

/I had never heard of him before.
//Looks interesting
