Kevin72: Befuddled: F*ck China. They keep the house of horrors known as North Korea going. If China wanted to put an end to this evil insanity, they could do it in a month but they won't because China is just as evil a North Korea, just with more resources.

The Communist in China have turned everything they've touched into fark. The Korean War gave us this. You can thank them for the Khmer Rouge. For ruining Tibet. For supporting the Godawful junta in Burma which may have finally come to its senses. Not to mention screwing up Mainland China's businesses, religions, even ruined the Chinese characters by simplifying them but the kids still have to learn the traditional characters.

The rise of the Khmer Rouge was a joint Chinese/American effort.

All I have to say is it is so sad the communist ruined China since everything was so good before them.

1930s China was not so bad compared to the rest of the world, except for the damned Japanese incursions. Remember that the USA had the Depression and the Dust Bowl. Europe was also in depression and Germany well you know. In the early to mid part of the century, Robert Ripley travelled the world seeking stories for his wildly popular Believe it or Not. He always said China was his favorite spot in the whole world. He would not have said that if it were some kind of hellhole.

YES! Think of how many kids would get eaten if the poor sods had a nice single shot .45 to finish the fast little buggers off quicker. Beating them to death with a stick can be very time consuming. Mmmmmmm...consuming.

Well the plan really would have been to send these over the Prison/Farms that these people work on (I guess it's the farm part that really irks me, I mean, they know where the food is coming from, then they get to watch as Prison Guards take it away) So the line of reasoning was, if you arm the farmers to the level of the prison guards, they'll have the ability to refuse to give the crops away?

I don't know, what were you thinking?

How is this China's fault when every single country in the region from Russia to Japan to South Korea to US wants to keep the status quo?

China wants the status quo because it doesn't want millions of refugees pouring into its borders, the South Koreans wants the status quo because incorporating North Korea would be a tremendous economic burden, the US wants the status quo because there is no political will for military action after two decade long wars. Russia and Japan could not care less about what happens to North Korea as long as the situation is not nuclear.

Truth is that NK is a can of worms that nobody wants to touch, As long as the regime remains stable, half the country can starve and nothing will be done.

I've read that a lot of people who escape N. Korea and resettle in the south end up with severe weight management issues.  Its like they're stuck in starvation prevention mode.

kim jong-un: DamnYankees: tonguedepressor: We await your verdict.

I guess I feel like eating a corpse after it has already died isn't really that horrible. It's taboo of course, but its not hurting anyone, and meat is meat. I think willingly eating yourself is 100 times worse.

Concur. Eating someone that has died, from the perspective of literal harm, there is no victim. It could be worse, if the person wasn't dead at the time, and in the second case, the person who wasn't dead didn't even care that they were being killed because it was so bad.

Ok, I'll bite...
What is a progressive then if people on the left aren't? If you think conservatives are forward thinking you're bat-shiat insane. Based on that statement alone you've already proven yourself to be ignorant.

.
A so-called-progressive in incapable of working with other parties, they believe that the only way anything can get done is through one-party rule, i.e. a dictatorship. They also believe that they, and only themselves without input from others, know what is best for everyone else.

Here is a Georgetown University professor who was given air time on CBS last night. Link This nut is a farking tenured professor teaching people!!!!! He believes that the Constitution should be scrapped since it runs counter to his dictatorial fantasies.

Sounds like how conservatives think, too. And they're worse about it, they say they want smaller government then demand government be in women's uteruses and people's bedrooms. They also want a Christian dictatorship, completely ignoring separation of church and state.

And would you make up your mind about where "progressive socialism" will take America? Is it the USSR, Greece, or North Korea? You guys can never make up your minds about anything.

Keizer_Ghidorah: They also want a Christian dictatorship, completely ignoring separation of church and state

I was just pointing out in another thread how the Texas Revolution was started in small part by Mexico's requirement that all settlers adopt Catholicism.

I wonder how the Southern Baptists would have felt of Kennedy made Catholicism or Romney had made Mormonism the state religion.  Or fark it, we just return to the beginning with the Anglican Church.  Very much a "be careful of what you wish for, as you may not always be in power".

If true, that's quite sickening. Perhaps not surprising in any impoverished location.

Also, here is the Giant Squid song documenting a likewise act in the ocean. Sleep well, my rich brothers and sisters. May we someday see our trifles in a different light. May our children know a better world.

kim jong-un: 2) Letting your child die of hunger or disease and burying them and then later exhuming their rotting corpses and eating them.

We await your verdict.

Number 2 is singular, and could just be a Jeffrey Dahmer type thing. Maybe not, but it's still possible.

Before refrigeration, it was common to bury large animals to preserve their meat so it could be eaten latter.  Some animals like cats have been doing that for a very long time.

Resident Muslim: way south: Resident Muslim: Power crazed rulers are no surprise.
Cannibalism...not sure if serious.

Tyrants have used famine as a weapon before. I can think of a few nations in Africa where this was a common practice. It wouldn't surprise me to see one in Asia (a continent not unfamiliar with genocides) doing the same.

It would surprise me that a people living up in the weeds and without effective governance didn't have a backup plan.
...but this is where I have to remind myself that these dictatorships are like nation sized domestic violence cases. If its a community dependent on grain then its quite easy for soldiers to walk off with the years haul and no one will so much as raise a rake in protest.

Starving people can do horrific things.

Again, the key word here is Asia.
I understand famine being use by dictators.
I can understand starving to death in Africa or middle east, but countries like NK which are relatively north of the equator tend to be lusher, so I really can't see why you can't 'live off the land' especially if you were a farmer and know your plants.
And by that I mean scavenging, not farming.

What do I know...maybe with a large enough population you'd run out of stuff to scavenge.

/wish humanity the best.

Actually, the Korean Peninsula's north is mountainous while its south has been the traditional rice bowl. It is far from a lush area. The World Bank reported 2.65 million hectares of arable land to feed 24 million people, or about 0.11 hectare per capita. Still, other countries that feed their people make do on less: China makes do on 0.08 hectare per capita and the ratio in Japan is 0.04 hectare per capita.

Worse, they'll shoot down any planes (even ICRC planes) that try, and capture the pilots to use as bargaining chips (for weapons and ICBM construction materials, not food).

"Throw down all your silver spoons,
Eat all of your raw meat with your hands.
---Pick it up piece by piece
---Pick it up piece by piece,
Where are the bodies for dinner?
I want my food!

What if you were starving to death
And the only food you had was me?
What would you say to the cannibal question
Would your answer be perfectly free?

Your mother told you never
To eat your friends with your fingers and hands
But I say you ought to eat what you will,
Stuff it in your mouth any way you can.

Where are the bodies for dinner?
I want my food!"
