I might have more sympathy for the anti-choice movement if they had plans and funding in place to help poor children. Instead they ostracize them and call their mothers welfare queens. They honestly don't give a shiat about kids once they are born and therefore they give many women every reason to want to abort a pregnancy. Who wants to live in abject poverty and be ostracized? With no mandatory maternity leave many women have to choose between the life of their fetus and their jobs. But guess who doesn't want any sort of decent maternity leave, that's right, those zany Republicans.

I could go on all day about education and healthcare and every wonderful thing that these poor children don't get in this country (but they sure do in Europe). People love to get emotional about babies, it's natural, hell it's in our DNA, but you can't just prevent a fetus from getting killed and expect everything will be hunky-farking-dory.

Well, I know this won't change anyone's mind, so I'm just going to continue being for abortion. Don't kids yourselves, GOP folk, I know you don't give a shiat about babies once they are born.

Maybe the pro-life people should talk to God about how he randomly slaughters innocents with natural disasters, strikes down innocents with diseases, inflicts innocents with cancers and disorders, and allows innocents to be killed by "evil" people. To say nothing of the millions of fertilized embryos that never implant, thousands of miscarriages that occur each year, and the hundreds of thousands of children starving and being beaten and killed. This is the kind of thing that makes me embarrassed to be a Kansan.

My first assignment when I moved to Topeka in the 90s was to photographer Roeder at his arraignment on something related to pipe bombs. He's just a garden variety murderer. The problem with Kansas is the people who admire him, outwardly or in their hearts, because there are so many of them. And they attract more likeminded people to move here. Kansans in general are more moderate than most people would expect, but they don't pay attention until the radicals really fark things up.

According to personal accounts from folks I knew in the industry, there is a LOT of criminal behavior from the "pro-life" crowd that just never gets officially recorded. They get arrested and hauled off but because the county/state can't afford to press charges they'll probably beat down with donation money and political stinks they're just released at the end of the day to go throw bibles, jump security guards, rifle through records and/or try to sabotage ventilation systems tomorrow.

No, you haven't. It's very possible that you've experienced prejudice, even likely- I grew up white in New Orleans, so I understand feeling very uncomfortable in your own privilege.

But you know what? There was no institutional power behind the prejudice you experienced. You weren't being harassed by black cops, appearing before black judges, being taught by black teachers, and represented by black politicians. Your parents and grandparents weren't denied educational opportunities and housing opportunities and all of the other things that go into building security and comfort.

There's a very different power balance and history behind being white in a majority black area and being black in a majority white area. Even a very quick examination of American history should make that much very clear.
