When scientists do it it taxonomizing, not cataloging.

The guy who named one after Colbert, right?

[clicks link]

Yep!

He's got a point. And since he's the one who discovered the new species, it's his prerogative.

The researcher has now named close to 50 new species, but he hasn't - and won't - name one for himself. That sort of thing is frowned upon in his field, he said.

Bond insists he only chooses celebrities he respects for reasons beyond their fame. In Jillette's case, he said he appreciates the magician's "views on science and reason."

He swears this is not just some complicated scheme to rub elbows with stars. Except maybe in the case of Aptostichus angelinajoliea, also known as the Angelina Jolie spider.

"I have to admit that my motivations in that one were not as honorable as they usually are," Bond said with a laugh.

I like this guy.

Plus, you have to think, if being a conspiracy theorist nut job can be a lucrative career, as Glenn Beck has shown us it can be, then the opposite must be true as well.

Art Bell built an empire of collecting all the hypercredulous people like some wacko Noah's Ark, where their mutual belief in their crazed notions became a thing of terrible beauty.

That's exactly what I came to say. Shiatting all over other people's behaviour because you don't agree with it is not the same as being a skeptic. Bullshiat was one of the worst things I've ever seen for being one-sided and presenting opinions as facts. There were a few episodes where they debunked very obviously false stuff, but a lot of them were just opinionated ranting. Just because some famous skeptics have been loud mouthed arseholes, doesn't mean being a loud mouthed arsehole makes you a good skeptic.
