Once again, Kos is stuck on stupid and doubled down on retard.  This whole line of "big oil funds anti-environmental campaigns" has been debunked so many times in the past 4 decades that only a complete idiot would even attempt to make it stick.

Oddly enough, Kos does nothing but spout idiocy for idiots, so there you go....

Came hear to say this.

But my version was going to be interspersed with a lot of herps, derps, dois, and duhs.  And feature a picture of a guy in a tinfoil hat.

It even extends to his profile, but he gave us all a big clue by giving his location as Seattle. I think it's illegal for derps to live there.

It's hilarious that libs think that the .001% of scientists who say climate change isn't real are somehow bought and paid for by the energy companies who fund them. Let me guess, Bush caused 9/11 too? Libs are so dumb. Now let's go back to that..building thingy...where our beds and tv!...is.

Yes, just as some individuals still deny the "birth certificate" hoax. Some individuals are intelligent enough to recognize when claims of a "hoax" are entirely unsupported by data.

Seven facts, when considered together, point conclusively to the idea that the oil companies are NOT "ginning" anything.

1. Oil company lobbyists are writing the carbon tax proposals, so they will do just FINE if they pass.
2. Environmental groups contribute more than 10x what oil companies do.
3. Governments contribute 10x more than environmental groups do.
4. All of the cheating, and data faking and alteration, that has been uncovered is pro-AGW.
5. All of the phony (not peer-reviewed) research in the IPCC reports is environmental activist propaganda.
6. EVERY time oil companies go up against environmental groups, the greenies get their ass handed to them, and end up doing the oil companys' work for them.
7. If oil companies WERE juking this, history indicates that they'd be getting much better results.

2013-01-27 06:20:38 PM
At there seems to be more widespread recognition in the US that this is a problem. Whenever I point out that the Koch brothers have been donating for years to the supposedly "non-political, non-partisan" Fraser Institute, which teaches unequivocally that climate change is not caused by carbon emissions, I get told I'm just paranoid. Some people started paying a little more attention to what I was telling them about environmental policy after the government labelled opponents of the Northern Gateway pipeline "extremists" (putting them on the same watch list as suspected terrorists), but still...

And funding global warming research?

- The Heinz Endowments
- The Rockefeller Foundation
- The Turner Foundation
- The Energy Foundation

The vast majority of climate research is paid for through federal research grants to individuals at recognized institutions of higher learning. Also, some is paid for by compaies which fund specific research by deducting the cost from their tax liability, for both federal and state taxes.

Don't worry kiddies- you're not being outgunned by the 2%.

Not a denier that climate change is occurring: I just believe that it is occurring whether we were here to biatch about it or not. Do you believe that mankind was too"green" at one time resulting in the ice age? Me neither, yet it occurred. Millenia previous to the ice age, there is this consensus of scientific belief that the average temperatures were significantly warmer on average than they are today. Possible that temps just are not as stable as we'd like them to be, or that we're just cocky enough to believe everything we do effects the rest of the universe. Remember that impending ice age predicted in the early 70's.

Here's a good question for Fark:

Have we EVER had a thread about climate change that the derpy trolls didn't come in and ruin?

2013-01-27 07:07:41 PM
"It turns out that there is a fairly straight forward explanation for this continued craziness. $500,000,000 dollars."

...an amount which isn't reflected, in any actual sense, in the numbers the article actually shows.

They basically took a huge number, waved it around, referred to a couple of others (like the entire $25 million budget of the Heartland Institute for the last decade or so), pretended those other numbers were 100% "denialism" (when Heartland's total anti-AGW budget is a tiny fraction of that), and got some folks to believe...

For example, look at that $9 million Exxon "denialism" budget. Over a decade. Which is less than a million a year, for the largest oil company in the world. Which gave many times that to climate change issues over those same dates.

The funny part is when they try to make Donors Trust and Donors Capital seem like an insanely huge boogeyman of denialism, and gloss over the annoying little fact that their funds aren't particularly aimed at that, at all. They count any money given to any organization that ever funded anything that could vaguely be considered anti-AGW as 100% denialist funding, when all it really does is give money to conservative and libertarian groups.

Most of the groups they list, like the Heartland Institute are much more involved with things like tax and education policy, and only do a few small-budget items a year on the climate change issue. But according to the article, all of their budget should be considered "denialism."

This. It is somewhat uncharacteristic for GeneralGreenText to be showing up to a climate change thread this early. Normally, he doesn't sneak in until near the end when most of the other posters have already moved on so he can safely post his lies without having anyone else around to dispute them.

Uh- about that. Having not been in school back in the early 70's, you probably missed your Weekly Reader updates on the impending ice age as a result of industrial pollution (we thought it was going to block out the sun) and- God forbid-- the dreaded allignment of the planets threatening to tear apart the already unnaturally cold planet we lived on. Learn to read and indulge in your parents paranoia- good times. You actually believe your generation was the first to come up with the idea that the world was coming to an end as a result of our pollution? Bwah-ha-ha-ha
