dalbuc: Seriously, Rush should be done. They have fans? I thought once everyone of the losers who liked them turned 18 they'd realize the horrible error of their ways.

I'm 57 and I still enjoy listening to Rush. Of course I'm a drummer so the musicianship and instrumentals are a big draw for me.

Speaking of Dave Grohl his documentary on Sound City actually looks pretty entertaining.

Meh. I love Rush even though I think Peart is ridiculously overrated.

/Lifeson's rhythm guitar work is vastly underrated

John Mayer, that untalented jerkoff, is going to induct Albert King? Good thing Albert's dead. He'd be embarrassed as hell

Sit back and enjoy "The Garden" from the Clockwork Angels tour while you peruse fark.

Yeah, what does that pretty pop boy know about blues, or guitar for that matter?

Gunderson: Rush's last decent album was released in 1991..

Both Snakes and Arrows AND Clockwork Angels have been said by the press to be two of the best things they've released since Moving Pictures, and probably ever. And they're right.

RyansPrivates: The ironic thing to me is that the word "Rush" doesn't describe any of their songs, it seems to be as, was pointed out earlier in the thread they traffic in...

Blame Hofmann: basically instrumental masturbation

...the endless scales, counter scales, riffs, and solos, etc go on, and on, and on.

To quote shakespeare: "full of sound and fury, signifying nothing."

Clearly you haven't listened to any of their music written after 1978.

The vast majority of Rush songs are common pop/rock form with a *few* vestigial prog tropes inserted for good measure, but they are not - nor have really ever been - an ultra-fast, pretentious art rock / shred band.

It's okay not to like Rush; it's even okay to say so in a Rush thread (though why you'd make the effort does baffle me), but it is not okay to base an opinion on assumption and not fact. It's dishonest and an intellectually very unhealthy habit.

Bah. The Sex Pistols were a boy band.

Nice try.

It's all pop music.

They should have Les Claypool do it again:

This is classic Music Tab fodder, both the article and thread: a contest of who can claim the most people suck EXCEPT...

Now the Rush fans have lost their great argument pillar, and that is just. Thank god no one from the, ahem, "Army" has arrived.

Plus any of the guitarists with a fark handle could stand to up their game to John Mayer level. Don't confuse the tabloid icon with someone that can't play the hell out of guitar. You'd be an ego-maniac after bagging all those A-listers, too.

Except that Snakes and Arrows aged like fine milk left out in the sun.

How do you figure? Snakes & Arrows is still a great record.

Couple of points:

John Mayer is a fantastic guitarist, even if his output isnt for most FARKers (heartbreak warfare is a good album)

Rush does not do 'guitar god' wankery, but there's plenty of wankery involved nontheless. I didnt like em till I saw them live, and I stand by that.

Dave Grohl (and the FF) are not a 'weaksauce' band, even though they are over exposed. They have good, solid songs. Also people who say 'weaksauce' are weaksauce.

I haven't really listened to Rush since 8th grade when 2112 came out.  Passage to Bangkok was a laugh.  Not my thing, but I certainly respect their talent, their fan base, and mostly their longevity.  I give a lot of credit to any band that keeps it going for 40 years and maintains a passionate fan base.  So congratulations, Rush.  Long overdue.

/Cheap Trick next year?

Rush should have been a band without a vocalist. Geddy Lee prevented me from ever getting into that band he sounds like a high pitched woman.

If anyone is taking notes, put me down on the "John Mayer sucks" list.

all those links sucked. FFS.

now post a sh*tty band you think I like because I offended you.

I can see it.

If a drummer is needed for an industry whatever, they get Grohl. If there is a Big Name appearing on TV somewhere and they need a drummer, they get Grohl.

He's like, the Sheryl Crow of drums.

Especially funny considering Grohl's sorta hardcore beginnings and then with Nirvana. Who were so supposedly anti-everything, while taking the money anyway.

The real irony is that Lee's voice is now much *better* than it was in the 2112 and Moving Pictures days. He's had to lower his range and it fits the music better.

Took my 11-year-old son with me to see them last October. They're all about 60 and have more stage energy than most modern bands.

No, you're thinking of Dream Theater.

Albert King pisses all over Rush, John Mayer and Dave Grohl at the same time.

Hendrix, Clapton and Stevie Ray worshipped at this man's feet. No one is worthy of inducting him not named B.B. or Buddy.

It's closer to the bottom of my pile. Listened to it a lot, but it quickly went sour, and now it gets little to no play. For me, it's easily the worst of the last 5 albums. TWTWB was one of the lowest points in the time machine set list.

Blame Robert Plant. It's what you get when you start out as a Zep clone.

/voice mellowed out surprisingly good. Though live now it's... Ouch

Jim_Tressel's_O-Face: VibroCount: I have a problem with some rock and roll performers who have never been inducted, like the Johnny Burnette Rock 'N' Roll Trio, Big Mama Thornton, Billy Ward & His Dominoes, John Mayall's Bluesbreakers, Link Wray, Gram Parsons, Dick Dale, Paul Butterfield Blues Band, Love, Esther Phillips aka Little Esther, Johnny Ace, Sonny Boy Williamson (Alec Ford Miller), Son House, MC5, Rufus Thomas, Chuck Willis, Mary Wells, Captain Beefheart... among others.

Perhaps the Rock Hall needs a veterans' committee.

What you're looking for is a Rock Hall of the Very Good.

Blasphemer!
