A colleague of mine sat next to Andre in first class on a trans-Atlantic flight. Said that you couldn't imagine how big the guy was until you were seated next to him in an airplane, and that there was NFW Andre would have ever fit into a seat in cockroach class.

That pic makes the bear feats less impressive to me. The can is like a shotglass so 119 in 6 hours means he took, by his standards, a shot of beer every 5 minutes for 6 hours. I can do that!

*beer feats. Any bear feats he performed are still impressive and Zangief-like

If we're talking about the little sissy 1 oz. shots, doesn't that only come out to a little sissy 12 oz. beer an hour? (I suck at maths.) Hell, I can do that sober.

I believe it. I once shook Hulk Hogan's hand, and even though I'm the same height as him and have large mitts, his were easily twice as large as mine.

Andre the Giant rules and it would be kind of cool to see something for him in the rumble tonight (like an homage or something). Any clue on the Rumble thread time?

Correction, Andre the Giant IS the posse.

The "Biography" of Andre that replays periodically always leaves me in tears. What a sad life he had. I wonder how his daughter is doing.

CSS: My first serious boyfriend was roommates with Shep Fairey's best friend. We all grew up skating the same pools. And I ended up with a sweet Andre shirt that was printed shortly after he died.

My father-in-law tells a fun story:

Sometime in the mid to late '70s he was stationed in Japan. One night, he was out at a bar with one of his buddies. Suddenly, they see this absolutely huge man walk into the bar and sit at a table pretty close to them. They're in complete shock about the size of this man - they just can not believe than that any human being can be that big. So they can't help but stare. And stare. And stare............ until one of the servers walks up to them and says "Andre doesn't like to be stared at". So now they're petrified because they think they've pissed off this huge, scary dude. They start to get their stuff together to get out of that place, but they notice Andre trying to waive them over to his table. They're scared, but the last thing they want to do is piss him off further. So they slowly appropach the table. Andre says "I didn't mean to scare you. Sit down, have a drink." So they sat down and ended up spending the rest of the night drinking with Andre the Giant.

That seems to be in character. All the stories about Andre I've heard is that he was a pretty cool guy.

Except with the Warrior.  But everyone had good reason to be a dick to the Warrior.

Never got to see Andre in person, but I've met Paul Wight (Big Show) several times. It is nearly unbelievable that a human being is that large. Back in Andre's time, it was even more unreal. When I was a kid, Andre was actually frightening in his size. He would come on Big Time Wrestling in the Bay Area, and I would have to leave the room.

I like to remember him before the disease made him a near cripple:

I wouldn't call it a sad life, since he seemed to embody what everyone one else tries to say when they put YOLO on Facebook or Twitter. It's sad that a man like him had a short time on this Earth, but he squeezed more out if his life than most people could ever hope if they life twice as long as Andre did.
