(Daily Mail)   One of the top-selling CDs is the silence recorded inside a 12th century village church. And it still sounds better than half the crap on the radio these days   (dailymail.co.uk) divider line 72

They should sell it with a bottle of old church scent.

2013-01-27 06:33:12 PM
Big deal.

I bought the CD from the band that wasn't even together.

2013-01-27 06:34:22 PM
You know they couldn't have recorded this after taco night.

Buy the CD. The .mp3 has the bass all jacked up.

The only problem is you never remember what you listened to when you're done.

Meh. It can't be as good as Nickleback.

They should have someone scream at the very end - that would throw the listener for a loop

2013-01-27 06:41:17 PM
I find Gregorian Chants to be quite soothing.

2013-01-27 06:42:15 PM
As it should be. I don't think there has been 45 minutes in any church in history where a little boy wasn't screaming from priest rape.

2013-01-27 06:42:46 PM
Not really silence
distant hum of passing traffic
and some squeaking pews

OK, that was funny, and surprisingly subtle for FARK.

When I read the headline, I thought "there's nothing better than the sound of you punks getting off my lawn."

Or have Tom Waits join in at the end.

Yeah but then the lawsuit payout will only be 888 cents and 106 kinds of change.

How do customers know they didn't cheat and use the silence recorded in an abandoned mine shaft?

You don't hear the sound of Boogens chewing.

Just read the article I linked; no mention of Tom Waits on the coda??? WikiFAIL. (And I guess I fail for not reading the article...)

Sounds of silence is a hit as recording of empty 12th century village church sells out

Sounds Of Silence Is A Hit As Recording Of Empty 12th Century Village Church does not make a great band name.

They probably overly compressed it and autotuned so they could get more silence into it..

I only listen to GOOD silence. Silence with polyquiets. Not that hush hush garbage.

Came for the references to Cage, and 4'33".

Good. Tick in the box.

However, this isn't a bad idea. The trick is to listen to it without intrusion from your local environment.

pffft. for real church talent check out some of the stuff John Waters & The Dreamland Players did back in the day.

Pay for the mp3 and don't even own the silence.
That's the way to go.

Don't forget and leave it on while someone's over though. Your date will get creeped out by the occasional stifled cough that comes from nowhere.

Bah, I was not listening to that before it was "cool."

I still remember one night when I was really high and I took a nitrous hit and I was like "Oh my god, this is the best song EVER! I really need to remember the name of this track for future reference". Then the nitro wore off and I realized the stereo wasn't even on.

30 minutes? They probably don't know a CD could hold up to 80 minutes of audio.

Or maybe they do and they're holding out for the extended-remix releases as follow-up sales.
