I was listening to "That Certain Smile" about five minutes ago and thought "why isn't Midge Ure a superstar?"

Just a thin wall keeping it from happening.

And those who sneer will fade and die..."

I just saw his solo show Wednesday night - it was awesome! Did a mix of Ultravox songs and his solo stuff, and he sounds just the same.  The backup band wasn't great, and the venue was horrible (Red Devil Lounge in SF), but I'm so glad I went.  *fingers crossed* that Ultravox will tour this summer.

Ultravox was one of the first shows I ever saw in 81 in a bar.  Would be nice to see again.  Always great when I'm the oldest one in the club .... EXCEPT FOR THE BAND.

They had Brilliant out towards the end of last year, it sounds like the last 25 years or so never happened...  Which I have mixed feelings about although If Toronto is on the tour, they'll have at least two tickets sold.

Wow. I didn't even know about the "Brilliant" album until I read TFA. I listened to a few tracks, and it sounds great! Sounds like...well, Ultravox. I doubt I'll be able to make a concert, but I hope this is the start of more albums to come.

I for one enjoyed John Foxx in Django Unchained.

Anyone else recall watching the video for Vienna on MTV)? I was/am a metalhead, but damn that song is amazing.

Similar situation here.  I heard Ure on SiriusXM's First Wave earlier in the week talking about the album and playing tracks from it.  It's awesome.

/please come to KC!

If they make it out the the PNW, I'm am so there.

I need to give Brilliant a few more spins - it didn't grab me as much as much as I was hoping for on first listen, but then I have *all* their stuff. The recent expanded/remastered reissues were great.

Every time a band from my formative years (late70s - early 80s) manages to get the original or best lineup back together, bury the hatchets and and embarks on a (we need to make the mortgage payments) tour, I've been making it a point to go, as you really can't count on them sticking together or someone not dying. As an example, a few years back I saw A Flock of Seagulls in New Orleans, first show after VH1 Bands Reunited. Awesome show, I was front row left, and I got a drumstick from Ali and a guitar pick from Paul, both used during the show. The original lineup imploded about 4 shows later and hasn't played together since and probably never will.

/saw The Cars on their opening show in Seattle, 2nd row center, R.I.P. Ben.
//more to list, but you get the idea.. never know for sure when a band will tour no more.

Saw them mere days after the introduction of Midge Ure post-John Foxx at a lost long bar in Toronto called "The Edge".

Had to be the same tour I saw them on.  We got word that Foxx had just quit.  But the guy in our group that worked at the campus radio said their new singer was "even better."  Was skeptical until the show started.

It was the little mustache that was off-putting, true. But Midge pulled it off.

Speaking of pulling, I recall a stunning Eurasian waitress at the Edge named Lorraine. Mmm.

Ure led Ultravox! was shiate. It was all about the Foxx.
