Curious: ElBarto79: my state tax return from 3 years ago.

when LA went after me the lady happily explained i could go back three years and file amended but they could go back 5 looking for more money.

Hmm I didn't know about that. Now that I think about it I wouldn't be at all surprised if they intentionally waited until the 3 years was up to hit me with a fine so that I wouldn't be able to do anything about it.

Dear Jerk: scotchcrotch
I was one CENT off on a filing and fined $300.

How does that work? In the years I have capital gains that are anything less than straightforward, the IRS sends me a letter that says 'actually, you us $97.12 more.' I send them a check and never hear about it again.
I'm not doubting that your math was off by one cent, and I'm not doubting that you got hit with a $300 fine. But I'm calling bs on a simple direct correlation.

Yeah, I've never been fined before either. Just told that "Oops, you forgot to report this income, so you owe us this much more in taxes" and then I paid it. And that was for taxes that were from a few years prior. I don't recall any fines being attached. Maybe it depends on the type of omission that was made.

Weaver95: shower_in_my_socks: The people suing her are pretty farking stupid. They're just going to cost themselves thousands of dollars in legal fees over a case that they'll never get any money out of. You don't sue people who don't have money.

there's a good bit of revenge motive at work here tho.  a lot of people feel casey anthony got away with murder and want to see her lose at SOMETHING...

I can see that. I just find it surprising that anyone in her circle would have $10K+ to burn on a revenge lawsuit. I'd probably do it, though.

Wait, why is she on the hook for investigative and court costs? How's that legal?

I wish. I was one DOLLAR off on a filing and fined $3,000,000.

This was for payroll filing.

Technically I should be telling the DOL to fark off, but that'll have to wait til another day.

Casey was found guilty on several counts of lying to the police and committing check fraud. Plus she's currently being sued by Zenaida Gonzales (the nanny she accused of kidnapping her daughter) for defamation of character.

Ahhhhh. Thank you.

Not 1k in the bank, 1k in assets. Basically whatever possessions she owns, a computer, some jewelry and probably not much else.

ongbok: Taylor Mental: And let that be a lesson to all to all you child murderers who pick a random name off the top of your head to blame it on.

This chick couldn't get a job at Taco Bell before she was Nancy Grace Outrage du jour. Now she's had enough income to owe $68,540 to the IRS?

Meanwhile, a few clicks down the road, George Zimmerman and his legal team are looking on in approval.

She sold a bunch of pictures to one of the networks for a few hundred thousand dollars. That is how she had enough income to owe $68,540.

It was ABC who gave her $250k for the pics IIRC. Not coincidentally, most of the complaints about the Zimmerman case are that Treyvon is often depicted a few years younger. F*cking people are stupid for letting an image over-ride their sense of reason. And even stupider for blaming the media for gaming their gullibility.

Larry Flynt offered her a lot of cash back when she was in the news every day. I doubt the offer would still be as high, but I'm sure Mr. Flynt would still pay to "see that couch."

it's not like Casey Anthony has to worry about dignity or self respect.  her family has already disowned her, right?  might as well complete the story arc, hit the gym, drop a few pounds and get a manager to help her with a porn career.

IIRC, they asked a legal expert about this. If Casey loses her suit against Mrs. Gonzales, she'll still have to pay up even if she declared bankruptcy.

Yes, but I think getting a little cocaine habit is a more likely than the gym.

IlGreven: jtown: tylerdurden217: How can she possibly owe 68K in taxes, interest and penalties?

You answered your own question. Only the government is allowed to charge so much in penalties and interest that they dwarf the principal. If a private citizen tried to do that, it would be called usurious.

Tell that to Western Sky Financial.

/APR on a $10,000 loan: 89%

She only got off on the murder charge, IIRC she was convicted on the theft by check, lying to the cops, etc....and she wasn't found Innocent, she was found Not Guilty.

$500,000 for attorney fees and costs for criminal defense lawyer, Jose Baez
$145,660 for the Orange County Sheriff's office for a judgment covering investigative fees and costs related to the case
$68,540 for the Internal Revenue Service for taxes, interest, and penalties
$61,505 for the Florida Department of Law Enforcement for court costs.

Justice is expensive in the USA. And this is when you're not guilty! The lesson here is, want to bankrupt someone? Accuse them if a heinous crime. That's all it apparently takes.

I'm still hoping they find her dead in a ditch one day with duct tape wrapped around her mouth.

2013-01-27 02:31:13 PM
The reason she owes money to the Orange County Sheriffs Office is for the cost of the investigation relating to the alleged kidnapping of Kaylee. The result of the trial was that Casey knew Kaylee was dead, but allowed the sheriffs office to conduct the investigation, thus fraud.

Since Casey lied, she is liable for the costs related to the initial kidnapping investigation, I don't think she is being held liable for costs related to the murder investigation.

Guess I should have read the article first. However if you read the original it doesn't actually say she has money in the bank: Link

In any case if you only have 1000 dollars in the bank you're basically broke. I know there are some farkers here who live in their parents basement who disagree with this but it's the truth, 1,000 bucks might get me through two weeks, and I live on the cheap.
