Why was the majority of that completely meaningless shiat like "Teams in the Superbowl" and "Top Pop songs"? You could compare any two years and that shiat's going to be different! Meanwhile, the graph of various industries relative to GDP and urban-rural shift is buried illegibly in the bottom corner. Way to report, CNN.

Yeah, "interesting". Not "good", not "informative", not "useful", but definitely can't-look-away-from-the-accident-scene "interesting".

A graph of "consumer prices", labeled with percentages, and starting from zero? Fail. At least, I don't remember all the free bacon, houses and bananas in 1980.

They could've labeled it "consumer price increases", and while it still would have been a bad chart, at least it wouldn't have been wrong, exactly.

The first graphic explains everything. Republicans are willing to alter Social Security. Democrats will gut children and render their bodies for sale in order to continue funding Social Security. Thus, Democrats will continue to get elected to the Presidency for some time to come in the USA.

wow, i have not even heard of 4 of the top 5 songs of the year. i've never heard of them at all. i knew i was out of touch, but i didn't think i was that out of touch. and the one song i have heard of (call me maybe) i haven't actually heard the song, i just know about it. maybe i should start listening to pop radio so i don't feel so left out.

oddly, i have seen exactly two of the top movies each from 1980 and 2012 (star wars, airplane, hobbit, skyfall).

I can kind of see music and movies reflecting cultural attitudes, but what did the sports crap have to do with anything?

Interesting to see how much of a service economy we were even back than though.

THIS 1980 had quite a few good albums released in it. Back in Black, Ace of Spades, British Steel, Iron Maiden, Blizzard of Oz, Heaven and Hell and thats just off the top of my head I'm sure there are more.

So...if the amount of inflation over the last 32 years has been 279%, does that translate into an average increase of 8.7% in prices per year? Is that the same as the average rate of increase?

Why are we advised to use a 3% inflation rate in all of our retirement calculations? Seems overly optimistic.
