If the English start becoming irony proof, we're f*cking screwed.

Eirik: Sounds like trying to watch Blazing Saddles on TNT.

/What a cut up mess

It's even more offensive without the full on language because it never reaches the heights of ridiculous hyperbole required to make it so over the top that it becomes funny instead of just offensive. The whole point of that movie is to jab at the people who seriously say things like that and if they don't actually say those things it just destroys it. If someone is offended by full on Blazing Saddles then they are too stupid to understand that they're mocking exactly that sort of ignorance and xenophobia.

/"we'll take the n*ggers and the chinks but not the irish" isn't as rediculously nonsensical as if you say "we'll take the african and asian americans but not the irish." it just loses the whole thrust of the joke which is pointing out the absurd hierarchy of ethnicities that such a statement infers.

ModernLuddite: I've tried re-watching the show lately, and I just hate it. I remember loving it, but it just annoys me lately. I do not really know why.

I guess I'm just tired of the "misunderstandings that get out of hand" genre of comedy.

Dramatic Irony is a delicate tool to wield, but comedy writers think it's a sledgehammer. It's one of the reasons I just can't watch 95% of American sitcoms anymore.

I like the show, but watching it is actually stressful. It is so manic that it causes me to get anxious watching it.
