It's after noon here so I can post in this thread. Thank you, SABMiller for putting pilsner urquell in closed six pack boxes so I can buy it again. While not as raucous as Prima pils or even Noble pils, it's still a nice refresher from American malt / hop bombs.

I can see remaking that Twilight Zone episode where Burgess finally has all the time in the word to read books. In mine, a man (much like myself) gets his wish to have all the faucets hooked up to dispense beer. After much elation, the man goes to get his first beer from an ordinary drinking fountain. Then the rub: It's....it's all Coors Light!. The man promptly commits suicide.

What is this 'beer'? I have never heard of such.

"Beer is really widespread, with very deep roots...It's a well-anchored, important part of everyday life," said Jiri Vinopal, director of the Czech Academy of Sciences' Public Opinion Research Center.

It literally is. It's very hard to find a place that doesn't server beer in this country. The hospital cafeteria serves beer. The children's park servers beer. The swimming pool, movie theater, shiat the botanical gardens have a beer vending machine.

The easiest thing to do, Dr. Heger said, would be to offer patrons pitchers of tap water.

That would actually be the hardest thing to do here. No one offers tap water, and those that do, get abused by freeloading Mac users.

/off to drink some Bernard

The alt-text is also funny: "For a thousand generations we vowed never to forget how his soldiers feasted on our brother Stephen."

You can also get piss just about anywhere, and most beer tastes about the same.

Beer: The drink for people who enjoy tasting their own farts in the air.

FTA:
Plzensky Prazdroj, maker of famed Pilsner Urquell, delivers beer with the kind of tank trucks used to haul gasoline, and pumps it into bars' storage vats.

one of the first things I did today when I got to work in the ye olde beer mines was to refill the Golden Ale tank that went dry last night

6.5bbls, 201.5 gallons. 806 pints..

it'll last a week..

so.. I'm getting a kick out of this article

Odd, with a headline that states water is more expensive than beer, I was kind of assuming the article would explain why. Guess I was wrong.

Beer is cheaper than water in Czech for many reasons. Pub culture is an every day part of life, and drinking water at a pub doesn't make any sense. Some of the best hops in the world come from Bohemia and for a long time, every tiny village had a local brewery. So many producers, high demand, and low costs.

There are only two big local bottled water companies and everything else is imported.
