Congrats to Millwall, who got us started yesterday knocking out Aston Villa 2-1.
I seriously don't see how Lambert survives the season with results like this, I really don't. This is McLeish-like really, just no semblance of structure on the pitch.

I can't understand what is going on with Villa. Lambert is a good manager. He built the current Norwich side and got them promoted twice in two years. You don't do that by being rubbish. Every time i see Villa play they don't look organised or have any mental toughness. Its not just that the team has lots of youngsters as they do have players with a lot of experiance.

To me it looks a bit like when Allerdyce was at Newcastle. The players just wernt playing for the manager or themselves.

The big problem is if they get rid of Lambert who will go to Villa now? With Lambert they still have a chance,if they sack him then they are down.

I never said I was the only world champion.

This has nothing to do with today's matches, but I thought I'd share. A couple of weeks ago, I bought a truck. On the rear window, passenger side, I put on a Tottenham Hotspur cockerel. Just the logo, no words, nothing but that majestic rooster standing on a football and puffing his chest out.

On Thursday, when I went to the parking garage after work, I noticed that the car parked next to me had stickers in the rear window as well. Two of them. The top sticker was that foul red cannon and logo, and below it was the always clever "Got Arsenal?"

I don't know what the odds are of having supporters of rival North London teams parked in adjacent spaces in a San Antonio parking garage would be, but I do know this: I have envelopes of anti-Arsenal pictures printed up and stored in my glove compartment, ready to be slid under a windshield wiper should opportunity present itself again.

COYS!

If City could finish they would be up 4-0 by now. Stoke look like they are going for a draw, which is a poor decision given they have no chance of winning the replay at the Etihad.

Think of it like the college basketball regular season, conference tournament, NIT and NCAA tournament all being played at the same time. Some weekends belong to one league, others to another. Midweek games can be played in alternating format as well. Better?

Then you'll have to explain what you mean. Different competitions have different winners. Today is the knockout cup - the FA Cup. Next week the EPL will resume. In Africa, they are having their intra-continental championship.

Partly that I understand. Other explanatory variables include:

No culture of watching football live - they had organised professional fitba on TV for 50 years before it was in a local stadium.

Loyalty to things other than a nation state - ethnic group, tribe etc - just like Scotland

Infrastructure to get to/from games is lacking.

I've resigned myself to De Gea leaving in the summer. On a related note, In 60 apps since DDG's first game, his defence has been unchanged from his previous outing 16 times (12 last season, 4 this).

18 years and 1 day ago ...

And I still don't understand why Lambert left Norwich for Villa. It seems to me Randy Lerner will still be the problem irrespective of who the manager is. Fan ownership of clubs seems to be miles down the agenda.

Sorry, but a lot of others have posed similar type questions not because they were genuinely interested, but instead to just derail the ongoing conversation to say that soccer sucks. Most of the guys here have heard a couple hundred variations of soccer's boring, too slow, sucks compared to every other sport, real football is better, they're all divers, players are pussies, game takes too long, worst sport ever, rinse and repeat ad nauseum.

I'm not sure exactly which different world champions you were talking about, but English teams are in multiple competitions.

Yeah, looks like they gave up in the tunnel. Not contesting anything, sluggish in midfield. A cynic might think they had decided to exit the FA cup and focus on staying in mid-table. I don't think that myself, but it would explain their utter lack of commitment.

There are a lot of competitions. Like, a lot of them. Every country has its own national league, a number of tiers below each with their own league or leagues, and then in addition, there are a number of one-off competitions called cup competitions- usually the national-level cups take the form of tossing some large set of teams in a playoff bracket that gets redrawn every round.

Then the top performers in those get to participate in continental-level competitions the following season, which run concurrently with the various domestic competitions.

And then you have the national teams, which have their own regional, continental and global competitions- some for the youth teams, some for the senior teams, some for the women. Typically, the other competitions get put temporarily on hold so that the players picked for the national teams can go play for their country, but not always.

Plus, some domestic leagues run a football-like schedule, going fall-to-spring, and others run a baseball-like schedule, going spring-to-fall.

The end result is that soccer always has a gazillion things going on at once at any given moment and never has anything that could remotely be called an offseason. Not even the experts can really keep track of more than a few of them at once, and often when a club qualifies for continental-level competition, they get scheduled to play clubs they've never heard of from the far side of the continent. If you don't put limits on yourself, it can get bewildering fast.

Tony Fernandes has twice the football brain of both Flavio Briatore and the chickenshaggers running Blackburn into the ground, yet QPR still ship 4 goals to the Franchise. That place is a head-scratcher

From BBC Gossip - Former England captain David Beckham, 37, will try to convince at least four big-name England stars, including Steven Gerrard, to join the MLS - once he has sorted out his own future. Ashley Cole and Peter Crouch are also believed to be on the wishlist.

Don't do it Stevie. Stay a one club man.

I think, and I could be wrong, that the only pitch size rule is that it must be longer than wide.

Some competitions/leagues dictate pitch sizes though and FIFA won't permit certain matches on smaller pitches. FIFA also gives fields a rating. This rating dictates what can be played there.

I'm stoked about pools ousting from the FA cup today. Today is the day, gentlemen and TKU. This very day is the start of us winning the champions league next year. When we're lifting to trophy next year, Analysts will be asking when the turn around was and you'll all be able to answer that it was today because today's loss gives us the focus to finish 4th and qualify and It'll be downhill from there.

They should make a plaque for today and mount it on a statue of BR...the man who brought us back to glory.
