An Alex Jones website? Nope.

RIiiiiiiight...

Instead of reporting suspicious behavior, do your farking job and let me check in, get to my room, and take my goddamned shower.

Jesus Christ on a tapdancing cracker. Mind your own farking business.

Oh please, Infowars is losing its touch. The feds have ALREADY put nanobots in every dollar that take DNA samples and track everyone who touches it without three layers of tinfoil around thick gloves.

Is the "Stupid" tag for the idea of calling the DHS if someone uses cash, or is it the default for a link to any article on InfoWars?

2013-01-26 07:57:30 AM
Ok this is ridiculous. Daily Caller and now Infowars! Doesn't the conservative movement have any websites to link to that are not fruits&nuts?

I don't care to click on Infowars, but the local police take more interest in people staying at my hotel who pay with cash. And insist that I get their driver licence #, or else.

2013-01-26 08:02:17 AM
Damn. Now where am I gonna go for my "No tell Motel" needs? I guess all that's left is to kill 'em and bury 'em 6 feet under a dogs corpse.

\how YOU doin' ladies....

2013-01-26 08:02:26 AM
Being nervous and paying for a hotel in cash....

So, we're going to catch terrorists, people cheating on spouses, and groups of 19yo college guys that are preparing to get strippers/hookers.

2013-01-26 08:04:17 AM
OHNOES! How will Jack Reacher get a hotel room now?

2013-01-26 08:05:38 AM
Don't worry, the internet tough guys will protect us with their 30-round duck-huntin' magazines.

Besides, if you're nervous, you're obviously guilty.

Some day facial recognition will be ubiquitous enough that we can shun people who used to work for DHS. I'm sorry Mr. Smith, my phone says you're on a watch list of suspected fascists.

I certainly don't like that law. On the other hand, I've not seen them come by to enforce it lately.

I had noticed that when they used to come by and ask for the complete rooming list, they'd pay more attention to Hispanic-looking names.

I doubt they had a specific individual in mind.

Have you thought about insisting on a warrant? You're not exactly giving them public records, nor anything in plain sight.

To be more specific, does the law say that you have to just collect the information, or does it also say you have to turn it in on request as well?

Law specifically requires him to turn over records when requested.

Both. Local ordinance from the city of Maryland Heights. We keep a hardcopy of it on hand, if a guest wants to see it. I got a written warning once, was told that next time it would be a court summons.

IANAL, but that sounds like a rather clear violation of the fourth amendment. Where's the reasonable suspicion or probable cause?

Ouch. I'd say fight it, but I don't know how successful you'd be...

Any terrorist organization that's incapable of obtaining stolen or fake IDs and credit cards for its operatives is probably not an organization we have to worry about.

On the other hand, a government security agency that can't figure this out on its own probably is an organization we should worry about.

2013-01-26 08:59:43 AM
If you have human DNA, you are a terrorist. End of story.

Should I report the DHS to the DHS?

This will be interesting when they start catching politicians checking in without a toothbrush.

And do we really think that it is beyond Al Qaeda's capability to get a fake credit card?

While it sounds scary, I have trouble believing any website that uses itself as its primary citation source.

Don't backpackers usually always pay in cash because they're day-budgeting? So that's 40,000 calls a day they'll get just for that...

Australians, so notorious for their terrorism.

I doubt that you can find a harsher critic of the drydrunk silverspoon hillbilly and his dark lord puppet master than I, but no. Most of the Democratic Party put on the black boots and goosestepped proudly along to the strains of Police State Uber Alles. And in fact continues to do so to this day. I give the Democratic Party not even a fragment of a figleaf to hide behind.

The people who failed to stop something are equally as culpable as the people who conceived of and implemented the idea? Fascinating point of view.

The thing that amuses me most about the gun nuts going crazy, yelling "I NEED MAH GUN TO FIGHT GUBBMIT TYRANNY",  is that you just know most of them voted for Bush and other conservatives and had no problem at all with the Constitution getting ass-raped in the name of the "War on Terror."  And I'm with you: the great disappointment of the Obama Administration so far, to me, has been its unwillingness to roll that shiat back.

You know, voting for politicians who defend our rights and won't fark the Constitution over for cheap political gain will defend our rights a lot better than your gun.  But that leads to the other problem with our political situation: the "libertarian" movement seems to have been taken over by Alex Jones nutbars, or by phony "libertarians" like RAND PAUL who'll talk about defending us from government intrusion then immediately say that while government can't tell you you can't have a gun, it sure as shiat can tell a woman she should not be allowed to choose what she does with her own body.  We need someone who can defend the Constitution who isn't wedded to Christian fundamentalism, and who isn't crazier than a shiathouse rat.  And that's definitely not coming out of the Republican Party.  And I have doubts it will come out of the Democratic Party either.

I have nothing against reporting such activity per se. But these announcements and messages almost imply that there's a universal definition of suspicious activity when it's really more like "you know it when you see it" so one person's suspicious activity is another person's normal foreplay.
