He didn't know enough about sexual matters to know not to have sex with a 13 year old, but knew enough about sexual matters to buy condoms, get a hotel room, and knew how to use a condom.

Another example of people allowing religious excuses and giving them a free pass. Ridiculous beliefs are no more reasonable when they involve an invisible sky-daddy. RELIGION IS A CHOICE.

And to reinforce that belief, the judge lets him go.  Way to value women UK.

Honestly it's hard to tell with the Daily Mail reporting. Could be entirely made up. That would be less surprising than if it was true in full.

Living in Japan, I just have to say: There, but for the grace of God, go I.

Everywhere you look here, everything is overtly sexualized. And age is something hard to pin down. Is that girl in her school uniform with her skirt hiked up with the hem just below her bottom 13 or 23? And the temptation on the escalator and stairs to stop staring at the floor and just look up for a second, I swear, just a peek, and enjoy the delights the girl so wantonly displays. If I say hello and try to make conversation, am I going to be talking to a school girl on her way to school or to an adult woman playing dress up? If she smiles back and comes closer, I can't believe there's no other choice than to step away out of fear of the law. Such supple thighs. Wonderfully pert breasts. Long black hair and eyes gleaming with pure sexual evil.

Every day is a battle. Sometimes you win. Sometimes you lose. You only hope that when you lose, the police don't come knocking.

Ah, yes, it's her fault.

You know, I can't figure out why Christians and Muslims don't get along. They have so much in common.

If I'm reading it right it was statutory rape, not violent rape. The judge felt he didn't break the law on purpose or use violence and locking him up in jail would likely lead to him leaving jail a worse person than he is now.

The only reason this is a story is because he's a Muslim.

MmmmBacon: I call shenanigans on this one, needs a more believable source than The Daily Fail.

Perhaps some other news yes but not in this particular case. There are no shenanigans here. England and Western Europe have kow-towed so much to their immigrant Northern African and Arabs citizentry it is borderline ridiculous. Their state is so fearful of lawsuits and discriminatory charges that Muslims can pretty much get away with anything. At this point in history (especially after 9/11) Muslims pretty much have carte blanche to do anything in Europe w/o fear of consequence.

Pretty much everything 'known'/written about A'isha Bint Abi Bakr (hundreds of years later by medieval male clerics) has been highly controversial since the beginning.

She was six when the marriage contract was written. She was nine when Mohammed first had sex with her.
There is almost no dispute over this.

david_gaithersburg: And "liberal" has evolved into a one word oxymoron.

No. Liberal in the United States means "less right" than "conservative" is typically used to refer to. Just like conservative and right are not mutually inclusive, "liberal" and democrat aren't either. "Liberal" in Europe makes our "liberal" look like staunch neoconservatives.

Your suggestion was that "conservative" means fiscal responsibility. In the reality of American politics, they spend less on some areas, and shift it to others.

Adil Rashid, 18, claimed he was not aware that it was illegal for him to have sex with the girl because his education left him ignorant of British law.

I can't f*cking believe a judge bought that, even in England.

But the judge said that because Rashid was 'passive' and 'lacking assertiveness', sending him to jail might cause him 'more damage than good'.

I wonder what the damage/good tradeoff is for setting the precedent that ignorance a valid excuse for rape.

The brief blurb the Daily Fail presents makes it sound like the guy was basically raised in a cult which groomed him for what he did from an early age. I'm willing to bet based on that they put up some sort of mental defense, based on the fact the defense claimed he didn't have the capacity to understand it was wrong to do it.

Also, 13 is ephebophile, not pedophile.

In all fairness, the Daily Fail is about as accurate and informative as public restroom graffiti.
